Phantom 631
Hi, If it's a brand new rifle, you need to run the thing in first The internals will smooth out and settle down and schrono it again after a few thousand shots. Having said that, many manufacturers are turning the rifles down nowadays. To reduce the risk of the rifle creeping over the limit when they are run in. Tony Quote Link to post
Buster321c 1,010
I've got an idea , throw the chrono away and concentrate on hitting your target . Why are people hung up on power ? Do you think an extra 3/4 ftlb will make a noticeable difference ? 1 Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
Put 1000 pellets through it, then get the power checked and tell your chosen gunsmith you want 11.5, the onus is on the owner to select the power, and if it creeps over its your problem, but major manufacturers won't send out mass produced guns over 10.5 Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
iv only been droppping animals at close range.. iv deffo hit a rabbit in the head at about 40 yards n it shud hav been dead but it ran off.... i dont care about power i know i can shoot well out to about 50 yards yeh i try get close but sometimes you gota take a few long rangers, wood pigeons etc.. at close range its spot on but id like to know if i want to take a slightly longer range shot, its wel within my capabilities to do so, that the pellet wud stil hav enuf energy to humanely take down the target.if i had 11.5 at the muzzle then thats guna hav a lot more kinetic energy left at 50 yds than havin 9 ftlb at the muzzle :/ Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
also i cant fault the rifle for accuracy, its just over longer range i want that bit more power.. just to make sure.. if i only wanted to shoot at 20 yard id hav got a frikkin rat catcher n saved myself a lot of money... Rake aboot 4,936
A rifle at 10.5 ft lbs will kill out to acceptable ranges for hunting, Concentrate on shot placement. It takes around 2ft lbs to kill a rabbit with the right shot, and your rifle will have that out past 40 yrds no problem. My daystate was running 10.8 for ages before I even found out,, and I was dropping them left right and centre. Only found out, cause the seals went so I rebuilt it. ATB 1 Quote Link to post
Baghdadnights 150
Am I just stating the obvious but just use the air arms pellets then h points tend to loose accuracy on long distance shots anyway 1 Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
just guna use h point at close ranges ther nearly pellet on pellet to around 30yds. plus ther guna do bit more damage on impact than the domed. so that wil compensate for the 1.5ftlb diffrence... if i shoot a bit thurther away il go ftt's or airarms to try keep a bit more accuracy, therefore better shot placement..... there the only 3 pellets ive tried so far thru it, mite get some heavier ones to see how they react.--- ??? are ther any 177 over say 10grains? ??? --most of my past experience has been with .22 mainly air arms d field and logan penetrators, this is my first 177 rifle. thanks for all your comments ppl Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
ps. my .22 webley nemesis does 3.5ftlb [bANNED TEXT] air arms 15.9gr an my mates old battered meteor mk 5 was doin 3.0ft lb lol Quote Link to post
Baghdadnights 150
Think bisley mags are the heaviest in .177 I'm sure that's what Phil 8282 said today when I was out shooting with him don't know what grain weight they are though Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
nice one pal, like i said iv had loads of .22s before but this is my first 177 so i dont know much about the pellets yet.. Quote Link to post
Baghdadnights 150
Ive only ever shot with .22 just bought a .25 ultra of Phil I'm on a new learning curve with it. Pretty much shoots flat like a .177 apparently out to about 20meters then drops like a stone I've got it for close range squirrel and ratting so it should suit the job. Just need to get out and put it too use 1 Quote Link to post
Baghdadnights 150
Just spoke to Phil bisley mags are around 10.4 grains Quote Link to post
robwelsh 354
Light pellets tend to suit springers ...why not just use the aa's in the first place instead of changing pellets ..u said that the h points will compensate for 1.5ft lb drop at close ranges, so ur better off sticking with a pellet that is higher on power and a more accurate type at further distance...I was getting good results with a light to middle pellet,,I tried bis mags in my springer...they were crap, but it is known light pellets are better in springers.. 1 Quote Link to post
