villaman 9,982
Hi Depends on pellet and scope height but approx 27-30 yard . Have a look on chairgun then test on your range Quote Link to post
Buster321c 1,010
Depends on scope height and pellet ? Quote Link to post
Acuspell 329
I think he means the power it is running at. It also depends on which scope you have. Does it have mildots or other aiming off marks? Or is it just a plain duplex reticule? Why does this matter what range youzero at? Because range judgement at longer distances becomes critical. The difference between 40 yards and 43 yards can be as much as 1 inch drop if zeroed just past 25 yards. I use 30 yards, because that gives me the the best approximation but I have to limit my range to 40 yards, for exactly the reason stated. My SLR is running at 11.4ft-lbs with Accupell in .22. I only have a duplex reticule in the scope, but it is enough because I have learned, through actual practise, where to hold at beyond 35 yards. Closer than 25 yards also needs to be learned because the pellet goes high between 15 and 25 yards. I don't trust any ballistics program. It can give you a good idea of what to expect, but I don't think there is any substitute for punching holes in paper and seeing for real where your pellet hits at various ranges. It is good practise and will teach you far more than staring at a graph on a computer screen can. You can actually see what the sight picture looks like in the field for one thing. A computer calculator cannot do that. 2 Quote Link to post
ghillies 209
25-30 sounds about right. pellet weight, pellet BC, scope height and of course the velosity/power makes the diference. check out chair gun, have a play with it so you can see why. (the mildots come into it when you set chairgun up). finaly...you could go with the 30 yard zero, then set up target every 5 yards to see where the pellets are hitting, but quite often a diferent zero sets the tragectory arc a little tighter on your cross hair.. depends what your into really.. or how heavey the peelet is.. say a heavey pellet at 30 yards, a lighter mid weight at about 27, a very light one at 25/26. are you rat blatting near too? or shooting the full 50 yards on bunnies etc. Quote Link to post
