northern terrierwork 74
I have a young russel dog there he'll now be 19 20 months and the first two times i tryed him with old reynard he was going to and away in uynder 5 minuets i was'nt happy to say the least he was'nt even botherd when they were sitting behind the shovel. Anyway i was getting stick off some of the lads about this dog and came close to you no what as they were winding me up about him but somehow i rose above it and looked at the bigger picture i decided the dog was still young and still that little bit imature so what i done was put him to the side for two month with only light walks and not yesterday but the day before i had nothing to use so i decided to take him over a few holes and see if the penny had dropped with him. Well he was running holes but could'nt find but i could see this dog was looking a lot keaner so yesterday i took him to a spot i new would be active to see if the penny had dropped and to my surprise this young dog has now became part of the team it was an easy spot but i couldnt get to the dog for 2 hours because of a boulder wich was anoying but the dog stuck it out and didnt show for the two hours and right up with it he was.. he will now be rested and tryed again hopefully more of the same form him eh.. Stick with your dogs and let them mature before you show them the door you never no what you could be getting rid of.. P.S. the reason i stuck by the dog is because i knew the breeding was there please do not try this with house pets or busher to busher terriers :D Thanks for reading.. long dogs 580
great news all the best with it Quote Link to post
MUDD 374
Same happened to me and I relished proving all the doubters wrong. Doesn't always work that way though. I don't know what it was with me the breeding didn't really bother me because I've seen well bred dogs not worth a bat. I just knew the dog had more to offer and hadn't clicked properly. billybaltic 308
Too many push their dogs way too early by the sounds of it, surely it must do the dog good to take things at their own pace. 2 Quote Link to post
