My terrier has recently started refusing to work cover he's 3 coming up and is a border x Lakeland I check him over every night and he's not hurt in anyway just seems like his drive has gone he still as good as ever with the ferreting but when it comes to cover he refuses point blank any advise would be appreciated cheers

Is there anything actually in the cover you're asking him to work? I've got a black bitch who will only go in if she scents something: she's rubbish as a cover dog most of the time, leaves the cover work to the Russells. She won't spend hours just searching on old scent etc.

Do you do anything else with the dog: earth work? Some just won't work cover if their heads are not wired that way.

No I work him above ground he's great at everything else ratting ferreting he dosent show any interest if there nothing in the thick which I understand and don't have a problem with but even when the other dogs are marking and pushing he's always on the outskirts of the cover

maybe he's cottoned on that the others will do the dirty work if he stands back?

you do get some like that, but if the dog just stopped doing it i dont think you can make them do it . It every thing with any dog, where its running, cover, things that bite back, etc ..... when a dog made his mind up thats it .My bullx grey young dog Tod, dont like nettles, gorse, feckin water lol , but will tackle any thing with 4 legs, dogs are strange feckers at times

What happens if you take him out on his own? If I want my black bitch to work cover, then she has to be out alone with no other terriers or cover dogs. Even then she doesn't have the interest in rabbits that my Russells have.

you right there, Bryn my 1x collie grey, will go in any cover he is more like a springer than a lurcher lol, and for 25in dog really gets low at times in cover. Tod knows this and waits out side for any bolts ,and have had few good runs like this, but like i said Tod wont +dont like cover anway.!
