what age is a dog in there prime?

Recommended Posts

Sharpest or best?

Sharpest I'd say 2-6 and best I'd say 3-7 maybe 8 or 9 depending on what work load they've had and breeding they've got.

Saying all that depends on the dog. I know dogs catching gear at 14+ years old :icon_eek:

it is hard to decide but my sharpest dog is 4 athough my best dog is 8 and ive got one who still trys at 12

In an ideal world, but fast coursing types don't bounce very well and a few hard seasons can age them a bit.

my dad had a dog that was lamped hard since he was 14 month old until 10 year old.. he was 27 inch and 80lb weight..

but i get what you mean, if some are riddled with injury they will find it harder to keep going at that age.

imo as long as there diet is kept right a, looked after and kept in good shape they will lamp hard until its impossible,

I would say about 2 physically but not mentally. Some dogs if lamped hard are f****d by 5.

i dont agree with that, if dogs are lamped hard and looked after they would run until 10-11 years easy

....as long as they manage to avoid serious injury which can lead to early arthritis, or muscle damage which will slow them down a bit, though feet are usually the first thing to suffer if a dog is worked hard.
