ftm 3,357
as promised i went for a mooch last night even though the cloud cover wasnt perfect i took the pup along for the chance of a retrieve theres a public footpath that runs through this bit of permission but not used much after dark so i was a bit surprised to come across a few couples walking their dogs but after a few hellos and alrights i carried on in search of a crow or two it wasnt until i reached the far end of the wood that i spotted 2crows roosting on the end of a branch high up i sat the pup down and gave him the" stay" command and crept a few yds closer i picked one crow out and had a clear shot and a gentle squeaze of the trigger sent it to the bottom of the tree ,its mate flew off i checkedthat it was dead before walking back to the pup who was watching every thing i sent the pup on to "fetch" and it worked like a dream straight to my hand i praised him up and gave him a treat we moved further into the wood and the pup startled afew magpies so i peeped him in and we stalked a bit towards the cackling i spotted a magpie just about to fly off and i stood on the dogs lead and raised the rifle and this magpie never got anywhere it wasnt far from me and i was happy enough to see it was stone dead i sent the pup out and in he came proud as punch with his magpie i decided to leave it at that and went home to boast to the wife about the pup and how all my hard work training him is finally comming good Edited February 6, 2012 by ftm Quote Link to post

gurtwurz 793
i've started getting daytime rabbits over the last week or so on some of my permissions. think its down to the mild weather, so i dunno if this cold snap'll send em back underground or not. at least theyre starting to show again tho, its normally not till the end of feb, mid march that theyre back out in any numbers. cheers, wurz Quote Link to post
