Chooks in urban garden

Hey lads,

Was thinking of putting a permanent run in one side of my (very) small urban garden.

The run would be about 1m wide by about 3m long with a coop at the end with access for cleaning and egg collection.

Would this be ok for two hens? Considering I wont be moving it would throwing garden clippings in be good for scratching etc?

My folks have a good few chickens but they are all free roaming (and sh*tting) everywhere

yes it would be fine. dont underestimate the amount they shit tho pal, 2 would be more than enough for your garden

A lad im working with has done the same and has hens in his urban garden but im bringing him poison a plenty at the moment as hes got rats now in a big way.

to try and avoid rats coming in when youve got youre hens try to make sure that you dont feed them too much in the afternoon, especially in the winter months. if theres food in the coop overnight it draws them in like moths to a light.

Thanks lads. Could do without the rats. Maybe I'll just keep getting eggs from my folks

I really want the hens to get my young lads involved in self sufficiency from a young age.
