if the dog catches the hare its not the best hare because it got lifted an if the hare gets away its not the best dog didnt lift it so i would say its even stevens but i go for the hare being the best it doesnt get a second chance like dogs do atb

A good dog will beat a good hare 8/10 times

 

Even in January/February?? I'm not a big coursing man but that must be some serious animal. Worth its weight in gold!

Just look at the the 2 dogs in the forley final. Granted there would have been kick ups in there, but neither one missed a hare through the whole comp.

What decides the winner? Is it when one dog misses a hare and the rival makes a kill? Or is it the best of 3

In doubled up comps, you don't normally slip your own dog, a slipper slips both at the same time, giving the hare a start. The dogs are judged against each other on a point system. In the singles it's best of 3 or 5, and then until one misses. If you've got money on a match, which can be thousands, your not gonna stand there watching a hare get to the other end of your field before you slip.

I knew about doubled up coursing just was unsure of the single matches. I bet lesser dogs have won matches due to the nature of the slips, though it takes a good dog to reach that stage. Are dogs run every other day?
