kenny14 656
Everyone's entitled to an opinion, and I personally don't think that there's many of us who actualy believe the 'great' war of 1914-18 was much more than a total waste of a generation of young men, sent to their deaths by incompetent old fools who believed that todays battles could be fought using yesterdays tactics. But as for wearing the poppy, I'll continue to because to me it's remembering and respecting the fallen in conflicts past and present, not why they were there, or who sent them. Ideation 8,217
He's right, that most folk just wear it as the 'done thing' and don't think about what it represents for a second. But good on those that wear it and do think.

But good on those that wear it and do think. dont agree i think most people who wear the poppy know whot it represents assuming theyve been schooled in this country and with the ammount of publicity of the sacrafice givin in recent and ongoing conflicts on the news and in the papers everyday

dixiebop 125
I was brought up with the, Victor,Battle,Commando comics, learnt a lot about the wars etc ,then came along a bunch that decided they made me a Racist,Warmonger.Jingoistict ! Did they even read them before coming to that conclusion? was in the B.B. Went to my local Cameronian cadets, until they shut that down !Banned the Forces from schools,Stopped them attending Family days , all in the name of Educating me from been Barbaric !!! What have we now ? kids all over the place, with no sense of pride or History of their country ,I have a big Poppy on the back of my Pick Up proudly.I was taught that my freedom rested on my Elders willingness to defend this Country, it's the Least I can do ! Now It's backfired, an there is a shortage of young guys wanting to join Forces, what 's the answer ? X box war games, were your Invisible ,hoping young kids will think Class !! i'll have some of that !! Both my boys go to school in the morning,Blazers on,(Not Trendy now,and Elitist I was Informed !)with their Poppy on the Lapel, sticks in some craws, but the know why they can be proud,Gaelic School and British,Commonwealth as they also Defended this country,Their colour/Creed was no barrier to their loyalty.
andyfr1968 772
It is an interesting opinion and fair play to the bloke for voicing something that's probably not going to make him too many friends, but as has been said above it means to most folks as a sign of respect to those who have given for what they hoped we would have. The sad fact is that most of their sacrifice seems to be have given in vein. I wear the poppy with pride and sadness.
keepitcovert 842
So long as you show respect to those who gave their lives i dont think it matters whether you wear it, i always wear one. Its a matter of freedom of choice and freedom of choice is one thing they fought for.
