muddy210 34
having been pestered by my 8 year old lad all week about when i would be finally taking him out with the ferts again i finally succumed to his demands today, i only say this as last time i took him it was like taking a footy stadium full of fans singiung and shouting, well today he was told about the way in which to go about things and most of all to keep his gob shut. after having a chat with the farmer we set off and got a few of the all ready done sets that i have been doing in the previous few weeks most of which had been broken out again to some extent. First copule of warrens produced nothing ferrets straight in and out not any interest in them so nets up and backfilled before moving on. next few warrens showed a bit of promise and the lad had hi first experiance of netting up and entering the ferts his face told it all he was loving it. unfortunately again no bunnys at home, one last warren to do before we moved to another area so got to work on enetring the ferts as we had netted up a good hour or so before. the lad entered the ferrets and we waited and waited and waited. nothing showing nothing moving. out came the finder and got2 marks both at about 6 ft deep well into the field. with the farmer allready been fed up with the damage to his crop digging this far in wasnt reall an option so we waited it out for an hour or so before we got a hold of one of the stinkers all claws fured up and blood stained mouth. she was boxed up and we had another look with the finder to see where the other was this time she was on the move and by the sound of it so was her quarry then i noticed that when my lad had removed the previous ferret the net hadnt been resett so we got an escappee bloody big rabbit with a bald arse aswell. at this point we still had no sign of the stinker so i got out the finder again and had a look around got a mark at 5ft just in the edge of the field a 15 minute dig saw me breaking through right infront of the ferret so hand down and out she came again this one covered in fur, due to the fact i had kept the hole as tight as possible to keep the spoil down i was unable to get in and get the rabbit out. we now had both stinkers out and it was getting late in the day and i was still desperate to get me lad his first rabbit when he turns to me and says ferreting with his dad was his best day out yet. and next time he wats to dig considering the bag in the end was a big fat zero this was possibly the best days ferrting i have had the pleasure in going on and cant wait to get out again of course with the young one who now incedently owns the ferrets acording to him. i just wish a few of them had bolted but nevermind we get days like this and to top it off bloke that walked passed said he given up his ferrets but had some stuff left over if i wanted to take a look so got me self a few more purse nets and a 100 yard long net to boot happy days atb muddy 1 Quote Link to post
