sako 23
Who would you recommend for this then chaps? Any pros or cons from experiences you've all had? I know nothing about building rifles I only shoot them but want a .204 with a faster twist and two companies which seem to crop up is border barrels and valkerie rifles, any thoughts on these? markha 99
Get on to UK longrange forum and/or UK varminting as well as UK fullbore, all forums and some very good custom smiths on them. I agree Border and Valkerie feature a fair bit. There are some others around though. Do a bit of trawling and youll get the info you need from the above forums. atb Mark Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
I use Richard pope in Bromsgrove. turn around times can be a little slow. but he know's his stuff and his work is top notch. prices are very good to. or there is neil mckillop in basinstoke. he is on most the shooting forums under the name dasherman. I haven't had work done by him. but have a couple of mates who have and shoot rifles he built. and there superb and turn around time is very good also. as he keeps a lot of barrels in stock. sako 23
Im thinking of going for a 1 in 10, I was told all this months back when I went for my first .204. I absolutely love the calibre it's deadly accurate and I've only had one fox not drop on the spot. My factory .204 with the 1 in 12 doesn't stabilise the 40gr's at all like I'd hoped but the 32gr's are spot on. Im now looking for a second .204 with a faster twist but Im hoping to get away with a couple of inches less in barrel legnth and still stabilize 40gr's. Quote Link to post
blackfox 9
I had mine done with a 26" Heavy contour barrel, 1 in 10 twist. I only use the 39grn Sierra BlitzKing's which are excellent. I have got a box of Nosler 40grn heads but havnt tried them yet, to be honest the 39's shoot well enough Quote Link to post

With the factory 32gr's it's more than accurate enough and although I haven't had a problem with stopping power I'd like to shoot 40gr's. My only concern is barrel legnth at the moment like you mine's a 26 inch fluted varmint barrel but Im thinking of going to 22inch on the custom but don't know how much difference it will make. SNAP SHOT 194
valkerie, rifles built mine when dave was still working at SYSS, but nearly starting out on his own, it has a border barrel on it, the only 2 rifle smiths i hear mentioned reg, are neil mc killop, or dave from valkerie, i spent many months researching this and narrowed it down to both these chaps, But dave is the one i ended up going for, As i liked his quick replies, and his approach to the build, A no nonsense guy, who i could highly recommend, And his work is second to none....... he will tell you whats worth doing and whats not, And no doubt that saved me on the £££££'s good luck with your build... Snap. Quote Link to post
zx10mike 137
i had a 1 in 11 border barrel fitted by riflecraft groups the 40s in .25 but thats home loads.if you get into home loading it will pay for itself in the long run. Quote Link to post
dicehorn 38
Just to throw one more name into the pot have a look at the site of Steve Kershaw. He built my Tac 20 with a Walther Lother barrel on a Rem 700 action 1:10 twist and shoots pretty well http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq101/wyndog/20Tac98yds-page-001.jpg http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq101/wyndog/Middle250ydsbottom500ydsTAC20.jpg He is at present doing a 204 barrel for one of the guys on this forum - Shootingcharley Quote Link to post

I wouldn't dream of it myself but the costs of custom jobs are frightening so does sound tempting! Quote Link to post
