omegathelast 164
Hi Chaps. Ive just treated myself to a Weirhach HW97KT with sythetic stock. It is also fitted with a Hawke Panorama 4.9 x 50 scope with the red or blue illuminated crosshair thingy? After many years break I am ressurecting my once very active fieldsports activities and this is first step. The gun looks brilliant and the gun shop assured me it will knock the socks off what i used to have and be perfect for hunting. I used to shoot lots of Rabbits at night on land we ferreted and ran with lurchers at other times so hopefully i will get back into the grove. Im really after sensible constructive opinions on my choice of combo, good or bad, and any advice on the gun; for example will it benefit from anything? set-up, tune up etc?? I have already zeroed it in and could hit a very small apple on a barbecue skewer everytime at 30-35yds once i got used to it so was pleased with that..it does seem a bit noisy even with silencer? Is that normal? Thanks in advance........ Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Nothing wrong with you choice of kit, mate Springers always sound a lot louder to the shooter than they do down range, all the mechanical noise from the action is being sent straight through the stock to your cheekbone, so it gets exagerated. Get a mate to fire it with yourself standing in a safe place down range, and you'll really notice the difference. HWs sometimes are a little 'twangy' when new, give it a tin or so of pellets and it should settle down a bit, but I've noticed on a couple of fairly new ones I've worked on recently that they're not exactly very well lubed at the factory and can benefit from a strip, clean and proper re-lube. See how it goes after a bit of use. Cheers. Quote Link to post
omegathelast 164
Thanks mate, they did say 'it will settle down after 200 pellets or so put through it' and yes I see your point on the mechanical noise next to cheek/ear. Really looking forward to getting it out in field. Quote Link to post
neil82 1,088
first thing to do is get it stripped and lubed properly, also finnish the spring ends to a decent smooth finnish, hw quaility conrol can be a bit slap-dash and the importers dont really give a monkeys as long as they sell, that said, its a good gun that given a few tweaks will give good service for years 1 Quote Link to post
