trappa 518
Im thinking of getting solar panels on my roof. anyone else got them? Im getting a quote next week. Been looking at it and it seems you can get them for free or pay for them, but if you pay you get a good lump back over 25 years. The cost of electric is ridicolous and i cant see it going down so im serious about installing a few on the roof. Anyone else got them or looking at it??

I thought this post was about your head............... Looked into it myself mate. I think if you are settled in your home and have no thoughts of ever moving then its a worth while thing. Not sure if its better to pay and get the money or just get them installed free and reap the rewards that way. Its a long term investment thats worth while i think.... artic 595
It will take you some time to break even.....25yrs
Guest thebigdog
they have to be replaced after 10/15 years i think
chilli 381
Dont do the free deal as the person who provides it gets the money thats made from it , my advise is to get a loan & you can get youre loan paid back in about 5 years , the rest is profit for you . The panels are designed to last 25 years .
paulus 26
in the free deal does the amount of elctricity produced cover all your needs for the year, and any extra gets sold back to the supplier with the people that supplied the pannels for free then getting the money? seems like a good deal if this is the case? just jack 998
what are you thinking of powering as there is water, elec, or both? i have fitted a few panels in the last couple of years and they tend to go for the water side of things and get money back with excess energy that gets fed back to the grid
trappa 518
Ye, as far as i can gather the company will fit it for free and you get whatever electric it produces (roughly half what you need i think). The company gets the money the goverment pay out for electric produced which will be somewhere between 10k to 30k apparently so theyre happy to put it on your roof for free. The problem comes when you move though because the company "own" your roof.
paulus 26
i was thinking both, can they supply all your power needs? or is it a case of if it looks to good to be true
trappa 518
jack, it was the electric im looking at. Have you fitted some then?
just jack 998
jack, it was the electric im looking at. Have you fitted some then? yes Al, but only the panels, i fitted the panels for a pal who is a plumber and he of coarse done all the pipework plus boiler etc and it looked like a ships engine room but he reckoned it cost him about £5k to do it himself plus me and i had the panels fitted in a day 3mt sq and came in 2 sections, theres alot of agencies out there at the moment trying to recruit sparky's plumbers and roofers to fit the these kind of systems as its them who get the grants/go ahead,
SilentBob 0
Don't touch them free instarlation firms.25year CONtract where they get all the revenue and you end up with about £75 ayear electric because it only generates when your at work in the day,get home and turn every thing on and the sun is not shining anymore! Then 5 years down the road your roof needs fixing and you end up paying them to take off the panels an paying to put them back, some contracts even have you pay for the lost power. No be very carefull
