Recommended Posts

I am Having problems with a toe on the outside of the front paw,The bitch was of a few times with it last season.A few weeks ago she cracked it higher up in the foot.It was blistered but it is now sticking out even more,She is a fast do or die type having a toe of would be the end of her,so i was hoping i could strap it to the toe next to it,and get this season out of her,But to be honest im not sure how to go about it ,Iwas thinking of using one of those elastic things you put in girls hair.Any one done it how,any help please.Thanks...

ALRIGHT PAL.

YOU COULD TRY STRAPPING IT ,BUT YOU NO YOURSELF IT WILL OR COULD BE A LONG PROCESS WITH NO DEFO END RESULT.

I WOULD GET IT CHOPPED NOW IF THE DOG WAS A GOODUN 3/4 MTHS THE DOG WILL BE BACK TO NORMAL.

ITLL BE A STEADYER DOG AND ITLL PROBLY NOT BE DO OR DIE. ITLL WATCH ITS FEET ABIT AND NO BE SO GUNGHO

ALL THE LUCK 3TS GERZ

a toe off now mate will prolong your dogs working life ive had this problem several years ago and honestly strapping isnt a option id be taking its to hit and miss and the toe will never be the same and a problem waiting to happen have it taken off and the dog will be working to its full ability by xmas with no diffrence to its catch rate

The trouble with strapping it up is that if you do it tight enough to hold the toe in place, you'll also risk cutting off the blood supply: very dangerous. Get the toe taken off: the dog should be running again within a month. Only thing to watch for with fast dogs minus a toe is more strain to the elbow and shoulder when turning: no toe there to act as a prop. We had one the same: she ran fine minus the toe for a couple of seasons, but later started to suffer from shoulder problems. Either way the dog is on a limited working life with this injury. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

For what my advice is worth,i'd defo have the toe removed,an outside toe isn't a problem to lose, middle toes are the ones that can cause a dog to be always lame after removal,7 weeks will be more than enough to start running the dog again especially after the removal of an outside toe..honestly 4-6 weeks and you could be back at it matey? ATB Andy.
