deano26 16
pellets at the moment are: webley -venom xtreame, don't no if these are any good? but the preferred pellet are air arms Diablo hunter just running a bit low at the moment, and the gun shop was waiting for a delivery so got the venoms just to put me on for a bit if I run out of the AA's And agreed on the jacket, went out this morning in the wind and rain- bloody freezing! Not pleasant. Edited September 6, 2011 by deano26 Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
I don't use Webley ammo myself, but it is a known make, AA is a known pellet and lots of people rate them, so you are doing the right thing there. Just get the waterproof hunting camo and keep yourself warm and dry, hey there is something else you can get... Waterproof, goes up in seconds, packs away in under 3 minutes, plenty of room for shooter, lunch, gun, bag, ammo tin, copy of one of the Air Gun comics, flask, etc. Currently Saisbury's are knocking these out online for £28, but a few more months should see the price in Argos plummet back to the £19.99 we paid for this! Sweeney-Todd 208
Hi Deano. Having a good wicking base layer will help keep you warm and dry too, good investment and very comfortable. Used to wear them Kayaking years ago, and wear them in the field now. Just a thought mate Bill. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,589
Hello Dean and welcome mate. I shoot with an HW77 .22 rifle as well and I reckon it's the finest spring piston rifle in the world. From your posts and the advice the lads have rendered you are going about things right and you'll soon be finding what works best for you and what doesn't. As for pellets. Try H&N FIELD TARGET TROPHY and RWS SUPERDOMES in your HW77. Either one or the other of these should prove superbly accurate in your rifle. (H&N FTT in mine!) If you are shooting in heavy rainfall, take your rifle out of the stock when you get home and dry and clean up the action from all the wet as this will rust like hell if you leave it unchecked. After every shooting session, give your rifle's metalwork a wipe over with a rag and a drop or two of gun oil to preserve the blueing and finish of your rifle. I'm ex-military and an absolute stickler for a clean rifle. But an efficient rifle is a spotlessly clean one...so ner! Getting permission is a matter for persistence as much as anything. It's true a lad of your age will have a hard task persuading a landowner to take a chance on you but, to be honest, if you present yourself in person as well as you do in writing here, you shouldn't find it as tough as you might think. All the very best for your shooting progress Dean. Simon. Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
I just thought, ask your permission holder if he knows of anyone with a vermin problem, he can act as your reference! Edited September 6, 2011 by secretagentmole Quote Link to post
