Guest Lurchers2006
Just wondering what you thought of the general stamina of 3/4 breds? I know it all depends on what its crossed with so lets say 1/4 bull or 1/4 wheaton or any 3/4 cross do you think they throw alot to the grey side stamina wise? Quote Link to post

Guest Lurchers2006
Do you think that they would tire much quicker on a long night lamping? A few people on here have the 3/4 grey 1/4 bulls, how are they stamina wise? Ive only seen the half crosses run, Quote Link to post

Guest bluemoon
I think the 3/4 seem to be better weather its bull, collie and they always seem to have stamina Quote Link to post
MickC 1,825
I have owned both these crosses over the years and they both have ther attributes.A first cross has hybrid vigour more stamina and a bit more hardy.Ive found 3/4 breds to be obviously faster and better at closing the distance between it and its quarry, but mine semed to pick a few more injuries up.I suppose it boils down to what quarry you are after and how many runs you expect your dog to have during a day or night out.I had a 3/4 grey 1/4 Deerhound when I was a kid and it could run all day and night,If I ran the dogs the same way now and on the same game I would have one of these again. Guest waldorf
i would think the day time hare coursers, would be the ones to answer this, imho,i cant see a 3/4 being a stayer, Quote Link to post
luke 2
cow parks shoudent be aproblem the only problem i have seen with them is they just seem to run full steam a head dont go up and sit and youse there gears.better whith half grew quarter whippet quarter base blood only my opinion Quote Link to post
collie/grey 238
I prefer lurchers which are 3/4 sighthound. My oldest 3/4 grey 1/4 collie has no problem stamina wise, she'll go all day and night when in peak fitness and my 2 3/4 x pups just don't tire out. Quote Link to post
doxhope 2
I remember judging a show at Arye greyhound track years ago, and time trials had been on in the morning, the boys up there had entered a three quarter deerhound x greyhound, and it got third fastest time on the morning...What this dog was like for stamina I couldnt say. Ive seen some three qaurter bred greyhound x whippets, lightening fast, but the boys that owned them went home after 2-3 courses The amount of greyhound in each pup can differ, and this can affect the stamina, but you can get some useful dogs for all-round ability from three quarter breds of any breeding..and stamina can be measured in more terms than just a five minute course on a hare on the fens Quote Link to post
sandymere 8,263
Don't forget the greyhound input in the breeding - there is a lot of difference in their stamina as well as the crossses input. i raced a litter brother and sister the bitch would stay 680 to 730m even around henlow in the 's, a heavey track, but the dog couldn't stay 330m although hellish quick over 200m. It's partley to do with fast and slow twitch muscle fibres with perhaps a bit of input by the central controller balenced with musclo-skeletal make up and body weight. Quote Link to post
