Ferret almost hung itself!

Shit myself before. Got a phonecall off the missus;

. Is got a triple hutch with holes cut in the floor with ladders to get from level to level. Left one of their metal food bowls in with a bit of kibble.

 

Been working lates so she's been feeding them raw at nights. She went in to feed them and found one of them hanging from the gap in the floor, completely limp. They had turned the food bowls over and it had got lodged in the gap, re ferret had tried to get through the gap and got it's neck stuck between the bowl and the side of the floor. She took it out and it was lifeless, she rang me and I was on my way home, meanhile she just rubbed and rubbed it and pinched it's nose to cause a bit of pain.

The ferret came back to life and was jumping about like nothing had happened. Silly little sod.

 

Well done to mrs veedublee for saving the wee guy.

 

The bowls are out and won't be going back in. just be careful lads and lassies, freak accidents can happen.

They are inquisitive wee buggers and can get themselves into all kinds of scrapes.

 

I have a shelf a few feet up in my court that they love to climb up and down to, the problem is not all of them have mastered climbing down, so they just fall off face first, not good, so i bought a load of tubing today to give them a run up and down to it.

 

Also noticed one of this years jill kits now has one less back claw, she has pulled it out at the root somehow.

 

Good job your missus is one the ball, had she not gone out to feed them . . . . . .

you were lucky there pal at least it s ok though i use plastic containers and screw them to the back of the hutch so the ferrets cant move them.

Just spoke to the missus. She said it's gums were White and when she rubbed it, it spluttered until it got it's breath. The poor wee bugger must of been close to the end! Good job she went out to feed them at 9, same time they get fed every night and not 9.05 as it may have been a different outcome.

 

I'll give her a big kiss when I finish work in the morning! Cheers

Shit! that was well lucky! sounds like a proper freak accident to me, I'd invest in bigger or smaller dishes though if I were you so they either don't fit in the gap at all or just fall straight though it.

you could try making them a slide out of a piece of gutter maybe?

 

mine used to climb up the front of the cage on the hutch and then slide back down the cage by releasing their grip a bit and would land on their backsides. When I made my current hutch I made it so there's not a big enough piece of mesh for them to climb up......I had a hob once who damaged his spine, not sure how he did it but he was in the hutch on his own at the time so must have done it this way. One day he was fine, the next day he was dragging his back legs around. Vet confirmed he's damaged his spine and I ended up doing daily physio on his back legs for months....eventually he could just about walk on them but was wobbling around all over the place, was no good for working or anything like that but luckily he was an old boy so died a year or so later.

worst i ever had was i put a hanging basket in the court.and all was well for weeks,then one day i heard the screams from the court.ran up,and one of my hobs had jumped from the basket,but one of the wee hooks had came out of the basket,and caught him right in the cock,he was upside down and in considerable pain as you would imagine.took me forever to get this hook out.at one point i had a hammer shaft in my hand was gonna just put him out of his misery,but it did come loose.luckily enough he was fine.stank to f*****g high heavens though.oh well a good idea at the time putting a basket in.
