Irish Lurcher 1,013
Was out last night for a good mooch with some lads, plenty of bunnies about, charlie was keeping out of sight, anyhow we made our way onto some land that one of the lads hunt and right in front of us was a herd of Reds, could not believe my eyes, have been hunting this area for many a long year and have never come across Deer before, we sat for about ten minutes watching them graze, seemed very tame to say the least, and it dawned on me later that night that sometimes a man can get more pleasure from watching quarry than hunting it, the only regret I have was that my camara was back in my bag, still the sight of the Reds made the night for us.
Ideation 8,217
Sounds like a great moment mate, far too few folk appreciate the animals we hunt as anything other than something to kill. Good one you.

andyfr1968 772
Sounds lovely. I was out a few weeks back with a couple of friends when we saw Eagles fly past which are pretty much unheard of around our parts of Yorkshire. I really wish I'd had my camera with me then.... trooperman 73
the best way to understand any animal is to sit and watch it, it is the only way to be able to stalk it when you have to, all the best stalkers never shoot an animal they are after some times for months just so they understand it. paul
Attack Fell Terrier 864
... far too few folk appreciate the animals we hunt as anything other than something to kill... I don't think that's true at all, I think the vast majority of us do have a lot of respect for the things we hunt. The Anti's say things like that.

It might be true from your experiences where you're from, but not where I am, or in the other places I've been working dogs. Making assumptions like that only fuel's what the anti's say about us all. rob190364 2,594
To be honest, sometimes I think people miss experiencing things properly by faffing around with cameras/video cameras etc. As everyone knows, seeing things like that is far better in the flesh than on a recording....so why sit there with it happening in front of your eyes, looking at a bloody view finder. When I was about 8 years old I was rabbiting with my uncle in woods and just as it was coming light a barn owl came swooping through the trees towards us, utterly silent and in that light it was truly an amazing sight. Twenty six years on and I can still remember it as if it was yesterday, wouldn't have been the same if I'd have been looking at my viewfinder or scrambling for my camera when it happen. Some wildlife photography is amazing, but it's never as amazing as seeing it for yourself.
