Well decided to start the whippet pup Cass today with a wee trip oot with rakeaboot, had been looking forward to this for a few days now, in fact all summer, couldn,t wait to get out and get the pup into the swing of things.

Rake picked us up at 10 and off we went full of anticipation and we were,nt to be dissapointed,

we crossed the first field full of sheep without the pup showing any interest which I was glad of as it was first day out on Rakes permo, (I had done some stock breaking with the pup and my other sapling Roxy over the last week while in Oban and camping out down the Borders before that) reaching the other side Rake jumped over the fence and had a quick look at the sparsely covered gorse banking while I had a wee puff, he came back and gave me the thumbs up :good:

Me and the dug jumped the fence and time for the new nets to come out, at least the first time I had used them and I was very impressed with them, heavey spun polly so nae faffing aboot, got all the nets laid over the holes some of which were well concealled in the grass, the kind of warren you know has rabbits in it with the concealed bolt holes and others which are obviously being used  about 10 holes altogether.

So one ferret in and a wait of about five to ten minutes but nothing happening, in with the big hob and a few minutes later a lot of thumping then bang the first rabbit of the season hits the net, Rake jumps on it and while he,s dealing with it another hits the net close to me, while I,m dealing with that and trying to get the pup to calm down another bolts but flings the net, the pups on top of it in seconds and before it gets into its stride she has it :toast: brilliant stuff, It couldn,t have been a better start, the ferrets then came out the holes and we let them have a wee sniff of the bunnys then off to the next warren :D

This warren and the next were much the same but bigger, 20 plus nets on each one, bolt holes well concealed and the pup also showing alot of interest at one particular hole, she has been out mooching daytime so she knows the smell of bunny :victory: marking ain,t going to take long ,

Anyway after 3 warrens and alot of mad dashing aboot 14 rabbits in the bag and a tremendous start to the seaon, can,t wait for the next session :D:thumbs:

When you live in a tent a caravan is like a palace. ;)
