Now I've read this thread with great interest and it seems to me that a lot of you either haven't had many foxes, haven't been into lurcjers long. The fact that most of the people name 1 dog to me says in my opinion you haven't seen many dogs as all crosses will take foxes. There's not 2 dogs of the same cross that will be the same and that includes littermates

Most of my rough coated lurcher to lurcher line love foxes. Talking over 25 years from the same line: the odd one wouldn't do them single handed, but most were naturals. I wouldn't say they were psycho killer dog, but they understood the risks and tried to minimise the damage they took. Not crazy hard bash bash dogs, but the sort who were prepared to take a bite rather than let foxy get away. One taught herself the trick of grabbing the brush, then letting go right as the fox spun round, and grabbing its throat. It was a technique she perfected over the years, throwing herself low to the ground as the fox spun round so she came up right at its throat. Very effective.

Had a couple of Hancock collie crosses who were pretty handy too, and although my Saluki types haven't been out and out fox dogs, they could usually anticipate the fox's run and intercept them very neatly, even if they didn't have the kill instinct to finish them off on their own. Only had one lurcher who was terrified of foxes: a little Saluki bred dog: funniest thing ever was when one bolted along a lake side through some small trees: she thought it was a muntie as we'd just flushed one, so she piled in on the fox, leaping off the edge of the bank: then had to back pedal in mid air when she realised her mistake: it really was like a cartoon............ dog frantically trying to run backwards in mid air

Funnily enough both her daughters from different litters were nuts on foxes: their sires were full brothers, Saluki coursing bred again, but very good on all game and vermin.
