A couple more trouble makers down

I phoned up the farmer at 7.30 yesterday evening to say plans had changed I wouldn't be visiting after all... muffled silence... When could I next get round?... well not for a couple of weeks as i'm off on holiday - why... "f*****g fox's had had 7 of my f*****g chickens last night etc, etc" The flock is less than 200 anyway and each one lost unnecessarily is felt so wanting to show willing I got i the car and 40 minutes later arrived to beaming smiles of appreciation

 

The hens are kept in the field right next to the farm house and were taken before the evening rounds so I looked round for a place to lie in wait. Granted it's not the most orthodox of hides but looked to tick all the box's.

 

 

 

After nearly 2 hours and nothing to show for it aside from a bad back from lying in a concave prone position due to the trampoline base I needed a walk to straighten things out. I rigged up my crappy clusion to the sticks with plumbing tape and set out when it was dark enough to the middle of the field for a squeek. It wasn't long before some eyes appeared and you could tell from a log way off this fella was motoring. Shot him in the chest still 'on-the-hoof' at 40 meters.

 

 

Leaving him where he lay I continued calling (something i've only recently picked up from a trip out with Foxdropper) and low and behold some more eyes appeared around 150 meters away but these were a lot more cautious. I wanted to make sure of him and attempted to get him closer but I think I must have overdone the calling and made him suspicious as he slunk away. I went around the rest of the farm seeing several more sets of eyes but which were very lamp shy and returned to the chicked sheds for one last look before leaving. I caught eyes where I had seen the wary fox previously and, by taking it easy on the calling had him coming in. I was on the sticks waiting for him to get safe when, thanks to the massively wide and sloppy beam from the clusion saw another fox belting in 90 degrees to my right. A bird-in-the-hand and all that I swung to meet the new comer and head shot him at 15 meters. The other one was still there but not still safe and in the end he erred on the side of caution and decided to depart. Still - worth the trip out and a few more for next time.

Cheers all - The Mag conversion is a Remi 700 drop in kit from South Yorkshire Shooting which uses an Accuracy International 10 shot box. This one is in .223 but they do a variety. The neoprene cover seems to stop the 'sing' after the shot and also helps prevent the ting-ting sound when you brush against undergrowth or branches

Cheers, mate, I have a remmy 700pss in 223 coming sometime this week, its allready got a Jewell trigger with thumb safety and have been looking at mag systems, cheers for the heads up, Ill have a look.
