andyfr1968 772
I saw on the news today that NASA has just launched the last ever space shuttle mission. They've run out of funding, apparently The worrying thing for me is if the richest country in the world has run out of cash for something like this, how bad really is the world economy?? The Yanks are now having to use Russian rockets to get their people and gear into space...
scothunter 12,609
it was only a matter of time before the states hit a recession.the once f****d russians are now along with the chinese the ones with the cash.20year ago that would have scared the shit out of me. glad the shuttle got off with no probs though.love to go and see it take of for real.well not anymore lol Edited July 8, 2011 by scothunter
andyfr1968 772
It's a bit like when Concorde was grounded, we seem to have taken a step backwards. The Shuttle was always an over expensive, over complicated system (typical good old USA) but it was what it was, a human achivement and now it's gone
Ossie n Arch 1,683
Was in Florida on holiday once when it landed, middle of the night. Woke us all up with the sonic BOOOOOOOOOM. Been to Kennedy too, but found it a bit slow, the best bit for us was feeding the Turtles and Aligators near the Memorial with some cookies we had.
turtlehead 7
the shuttle is unable to break free of the earths gravitational pull because it can only reach a speed of 16000mph to be able to go into outer space a speed of 25000mph must be attained. i believe they are going to build rockets in the style of the old apollo vehicles which can reach such speeds, with the long term ambition of sending people to mars.so to fund that the shuttle is being moth balled.tis a shame the shuttle is gone though fine looking craft. turtlehead 7
Found this picture of yesterdays launch, thought it was wicked. wicked picture but i don't think that was yesterdays launch as it was way more cloudy than that.there was a 70% chance that it wouldn't happen at all because of the weather. andyfr1968 772
It was still a class photo, Weasle, regardless of the date Turtlehead... What's the bike in your avatar? It looks like a Norton tank on a modded Featherbed frame, but what motor is that?? Malt, yup, I think you're right. It's funny how things have shifted in recent years
