Terryorr 27
Was up at gunclub ground this morning releasing the 6 week olds and another member ask me "Is it legal or illegal to shot foxes with a .22lr" I started to laugh and replied "Off course it is legal" he shook his head and replied "I wouldn,t be so sure" Apparently he was in a well known gun shop here and this was the conversation. I told him I never knew it was illegal but I would certainly ask. What is your thoughts? Quote Link to post

Deker 3,491
Crumbs, this goes round...there is NOTHING illegal about shooting a fox with a .22lr. You may have some issue with the terms of your FAC though. Lets be realistic, there is NOTHING illegal about shooting a fox with ANYTHING as long as it is not seen to cause unnecessary suffering! If you got hauled off to court the charge would be causing unnecessary suffering/cruelty,..not he used an X Y or Z calibre which is illegal! Quote Link to post
firepower 68
From a responsible shooters point of view it is always going to be subjective. A short range shot that is going to guarantee a quick death with a .22 is a good shot. There are plenty of idiots who will take long range shots at foxes in the hope that a certain calibre will kill them even though their skill levels are not up to par Quote Link to post

The Seeker 3,048
I recently asked face to face the FAO if I could have fox on my HMR and was clearly told by South Yorkshire Police they follow the home office guidance and will not permit fox on a .22rf or HMR. Made very clear to me and I was told to apply for a cf which I now have done. Just make sure you are covered what ever you do. Quote Link to post

Yep, I have heard this about Yorkshire, and here's the really daft part, I have .22lr, .17HMR and .22WMR ALL conditioned for FOX, so, if I received an invite to shoot in the area I could perfectly legally go round shooting them whilst a local shooting partner could not. Perhaps someone would like to invite me, AND the Chief Constable of Yorkshire and we can demonstrate they work! Now theres a thought! Quote Link to post

Yes Deker it would be interesting to see My 22rf and HMR are on an open condition but now they "advise" I get a cf to shoot foxes which when I do they now want proof the land is passed letters from land owner etc, so the jumping through hoops starts again..
