obi2 241
I know of someone getting rid if a very handy dog due to giving up the sport, iv seen the dog work numerous times and have been impressed with it. It is just past 5 year old and I was wondering how long a career does it have left? It would b mostly used for the bushys? Is it worth taking at this age?Just looking for your opinions guys thanks. Dog's probably bang in his prime right now - that means it'll be downhill from here on in but it might take three or four years to start sliding fast. Seen and had some decent older dogs. Dog in my avatar pic was killing foxes when he was 10 years old! If it's a good one I'd take it if I were you mate. Quote Link to post

dirtwinger 235
My old dog was catching hares until ten then went downhill in about two weeks and stopped chasing completely he has had a good career but all his injuries caught up with him all at once now he just finds hares and lets his son run them. but a 5yr old dog with no major injuries should be good to go for a while yet. scalesntails 118
If you can get a honest answer to how many injuries the dog has had and if it hasn't had many then you could get a good 5 years work out of it. Quote Link to post

Simoman 110
In my experience the harder a dogs lifes, injuries, heavy workload has a dramitic effect on the dogs career, had a dog work very well until he was 8/9 and then over the summer aged badly and was retired to a life of sunning in the kennel and being fed treats.........
