I wouldnt walk it till its inoculations have had time to kick in, my whippet Pup at 15 weeks is getting about 20 mins at a time round the field thrice a day, plus the garden,I take him in the Car very short journey, to try and get him used to it,

the important thing when at that age is for him or her, to meet other dogs and people, I wouldn't be bothered about road walking at 12 weeks, as has been said, just keep pumping quality grub into him.

At that age, a mess about in the garden is plenty mate  If you got her at 8 weeks, you've had her for three. Just concentrate on piling good food into the dog and bonding as much as possible with it

With my whippet i just gave her alot of food and goats milk! And the run of the garden with some toys, and everyover day i took her for a little walk on the beach, just make sure its strong and dont try to make it look FIT it should be nice and fat for a good while, ive seen people try to keep them looking riight as theyre a pup and theyve stumped the pups growth or it hasnt developed properly

Like the other replies i would concentrate on little and often. 10 to 20 mins if pos onto a park or footy field. Remember pups still a baby and it needs as much rest as play, if not more .Wouldnt worry 2 much about road wk, just enjoy it, and dont do 2 much.

It's not the distance you should think about, but the length of time. 20 minute walk, not walking fast dragging pup on lead, is ample. The main thing is to get the pup out and about for 20 minutes per day, letting it see as much as possible: down to the local park once it has had its vaccination, seeing traffic, different sights and sounds. The exercise running round the back garden is fine: but the mental education happens outside the garden. Little and often, short excursions, nice and steady, not forcing the pace.

I take my young pup out and about in a canvass bag I wear across my front  He comes on the school run, or shorter mooches ... like Skycat says, sights, sounds, meeting people etc are just as, if not more important than the exercise. Mentally, for a young fella, he's fair sound and easy going. It makes a big difference. Today, tho, he spent the day in the sunny garden and he's just as shattered as he is after being toted to the Spar for a pack of fags and a fuss by the staff there

I didn't really walk mine for more than 15 mins until 6 months old. Unless we went for a mooch with my mates dogs and I would pick him up for 10 mins every 15 or so.

After 6 months I increased it rapidly and now at 10 months we do a couple of hours mooch and combination of road walking and off lead regular.

Just got back from about hour and half off lead through country lanes along side my sisters horse as part of the old stock breaking.
