ferreterno1 0
Over the last few weeks ive been thinking of a way of catching some rabbits on my permission, the field in mind isnt very wide, and setting a quickset wouldnt really work as they would hear you coming, i cant do much ferreting as their coming in the field from a neighbouring wood which is out of bounds, so i was thinking if i set up a traditional long net on hazel poles and rolled the net up so it was only attached at the top and figured out a way of pulling a rope and the net drops whilst the rabbits are feeding, would it work id be interested to hear if anyone has tried it before and how they got on thanks in advance Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
i tried it once upon a time, i basically set the net, but dropped the top line. So when i came back all i had to do was hitch the top line, for my troubles i caught 1 rabbit. could you not snare the fence line? Quote Link to post

mole catcher 1
400QUID!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aaaaaaahhhhhhh drop nets, now theres a thing from the past that is just waiting to be re-discovered. So easy to make and so easy to set but hard to stop folks from stealing once set. Ferretno1, have you seen the B Brinded vid on longnetting and drop netting? all you need to know right there in front of your eyes And if you know some one with a welder there easy to make for pennies, hell i may even sell some on here seeing as the nets are worth feck all Drop nets will and do work if you set the net high enough off the ground, as it can spook the rabbits more than you would think it does. Set the net with the release cord at a place where you can release it without showing yourself and do it on a night where you have set the net befor dark and wait a few hours. Untill you give it a go you will never know, but as for the method it does work as ive used it on small awkward gardens with very good results Quote Link to post
Yokel Matt 918
Had my stuff vandalised when i used that method a few months ago (on private land )... don't think i'll bother again as patching the thing up afterwards was such a fag Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
I have tried many different ways to drop nets over the years, some successful and some not. It is up to you and your own situation to find a way that will work for you. Two words of warning though - be aware that your beloved net can easily go walk about or get vandalised if it is in an area where others might find it, and take care that it cannot drop itself by accident. This happened to one I set up and I ended up with a long net full of rabbit chewed holes and a load of impossibly tangled hedgehogs in the meshes!!! OTC Quote Link to post
