Love em or hate em...

Yes Dotty, it was mice killing the chicks and/or disturbing the hens off the nests at night. Hence my joy at Puss puss killing them daily at the mo. This vole (and it was the first vole) was caught in the large shed the same place the mice inhabit. And like Ethyl, said, it went straight to the ferrets after the photos.

We are always overrun with mice but this year seems to be worse than ever, cannot even leave rabbit etc out to defrost for the ferrets without it being gnawed at and covered in mouse droppings.

I can hand on heart say he gets very few birds, i don't know if the talk of cats being prolific bird killers is accurate or not but i've never had a cat take many at all, i would say he accounted for less than half a dozen last year, non so far this year. He does wear a hawk bell at this time of the year with all the fledglings around. Then again the tiny house hen and the budgie both put him in his place, perhaps he is just scared of birds

I knew this thread would draw negative cat hating comments, i just ignore them, it wont stop me posting photos of him and his exploits. If you ever met him you would see what an extraordinary cat he is, not many cats will play with staffie types/lurchers, like a dog would, biting the throat, having his bitten back.

He will happily bring full grown dead rabbits/pheasant out of the shed and deposit them in the house for the dogs to eat, grooms the dogs, accompanies them on walks. I think whoever had him first did not explain to him he is actually a cat!

We never had mice till we lost one of our cats last year. Iv'e since caught 9 in the loft alone. Charlie was a "proper" cat, more character than most cats iv'e seen. He was missing for 7 days, we thought he'd been killed. No, but he had been hit by a car. He was covered in ticks, his jaw was broken and one of his eyes was badly infected, but his still got in through the cat flap. Sadly the vets could do nothing for him, so we had to have him PTS.

I like proper cats, and Moll, yours looks like a proper cat.

I had a proper cat once Moll: lost him 2 years ago at the age of 16. He'd come on walks with the dogs, teach puppies manners, and used to catch rabbits up to half grown in the paddock at the end of the lane. He was a sight coming down the lane with a rabbit in his mouth: he'd sit and eat it under the van out the front: learned the hard way that it wasn't a good idea bringing his rabbit in to where the dogs were :D Can't honestly say I ever saw him with a bird. Mice yes, round the chicken run: maybe he thought he was a lurcher.

I have a brother in law in oz and they are hated over their by a lot of folks, as they kill all the native birds and wildlife!

After dark in oz, any cat found wondering, is killed!

They are the no 1 pest, over their!!

We once had a thriving song bird population in out garden, due to some luthianians moving in next door and feeding all the stray cats and letting them breed like rabbits, they have all vanished!!

The list goes on, but i wont bore you all to death!!

Sorry, nothing personal, but i really, hate cats!!!
