oakey 57
Anyone harvest wild horseradish ? I'm thinking of having ago myself this year ive seen a recipe that involves tarigin vinegar. I think i remember when i was a kid if you pick a leaf and put it on your tongue the taste is unmistakeable so you wont waste your time digging dock leafs up
robbo 879
i have done in the past but i just keep a patch on the allotment now. you should be able to tell it apart as the leaves are a lot longer than dock leaves once fully grown.
matt_hooks 188
My nanna used to harvest it. I remember sitting in her kitchen grating it, and balling my eyes out. Seriously hot stuff, hence why it's normally mixed with cream to cool it down a bit. Mixing it with tarragon vinegar sounds really good actually. I've never picked any of my own, keep looking out for it but never entirely sure if I've got the right plant. Anyone got any good pics to help identify it? Love a good bit of hot horseradish with red meat, but the shop bought stuff is always a bit weak and insipid.

JoeD 24
will it come back again an again? Tempted to grow it. If you remove all the roots then no, but leave a tiny section of it in the ground and it spreads like bindweed! someone planted some a few years back on my allotment and its travelled 300 meters to my plot! It will grown anywhere and if you don't want it to spread, plant it in a big pot But yes it will come back again and again if you keep some in the ground. I harvested some roots yesterday and have just stuck it in some jars of vinegar/sugar solution and so when I want it on my roast beef just mix a bit with some cream.
