Having 'problems' shooting with my mates CZ452 17HMR

Zeroed it and was good at 100yds.

Been using it at night on the lamp and had shot real well up til last Fri night.

Got the first 3 no probs then missed the next 6!

Had not knocked the scope or changed ammo just 'lost it'

Gave the gun back to its owner and I lamped, he shot 37!!

Same thing happened last night but am at a loss to know what has changed!!

May well have to re zero but its his gun !!

i heard you got 30 last night so it cant be all that bad

Guess not but I wasted the other 10 rounds :whistling:

Oh so nearly got one of the black ones as well, was a tad distant prob 180 yds!! kicked up a dust shower right beside it !

Would have been a cracking shot if it had dropped!!!

Not teaching granny to suck eggs or anything but I got overconfident with my rimfire and .223 and got into the habit of snatching the shot instead of squeezing gently and missed loads of routine shots. Small targets at distance and its easily done I agree with Ian that HMRs dont take too kindly to a grubby barrel, whereas with a .22 you can plug LR subs through it all its life and never clean it the HMR is a quick bugger and those copper coatings must build up similar to a full bore. Still if your mate is bowling them over and youre missing it seems like its down to you. Having said that its his scope zeroed to his eye which will differ to you slightly.

All the best getting to the bottom of it :victory:

Do you wear glasses or have you changed your glasses recently ?. I once found I was shooting like a blind man at rabbits though on a range I was spot -on. Eventually I realised that zeroing the rifle with my head/eye /glasses orientation set up for the perfect prone shot was one thing but shooting from a different position was causing a tiny degree of distortion through my glasses. I noticed this when a doorframe appeared curved in my periferal vision when wearing my usual specs . I guess its the curse of age -the specs add that little extra factor to be considered in the relationship between eye and target .

Apparently its not that uncommon even for folk who don't wear specs . They sight the gun perfectly from a comfy ,prone or bench-rest position but in the field the stance and sight picture are not quite the same .

Of course you might just be going for difficult shots , being over-critical of yourself and losing confidence .
