agree with that personally we dig twice a week through the season like to let the dogs have a rest then people who have to carry on must have to keep a lot of terriers on

no matter how many dogs they have its no excuse hack 2 nd week in feb we stop as we dont want coming on any young what so ever few lads carry on till end of feb but thats it anyone digging for sport now should be ashamed of themselves and as i said before any decent lads that i know who get call outs etc of farmers keepers dont enjoy it one bit but they do it to keep there permission as a must .

i must be a waster then. i am a sportsman but i control foxs as a prevention not a cure. do you complain at the boys with the rifle, they are still out at night all. fox's have to eat and more so with cubs, so to protect ground nesting birds because as the law states you arnt allowed to dig to protect lambs but of course i'm a waster and dont know the law.

Totally agree with dee.mac, any man that's diging still just for the fun of it is not a terrier man, cause if he was he would not be destroying next seasons sport.Anyone that has to do it to protect birds or whatever then fair play but as dee.mac said i bet they dont enjoy doin it.

Higher risk of killing your terrier this time of year. Tight tubes, dry sand and temps up over 20 degrees stacks the odds against your dog.

Do enough in the winter and you won't have many call outs. Where you do have calls, a small sounder can be a more useful tool.

Removing cubs is the one job most terrier men hate doing but it has to be done. And it's also the most humane method.

But just out of interest, when I first got interested in working terriers badger digging was mostly recognised as a Summer / Autumn sport and foxing was always carried out in the Winter.

The trials too were always held in the Summer.

I'm aware badgers are now illegal to hutn but that's the way it used to be done.

I suppose neil, back in the day when all was legal, and badger cubs, usually being born in february, were well on there way and safly up by the end of summer,i can see a bit of logic in an early morning,LATE summer dig, when the temp is down a bit,in my opinion there is far more damage done by so called terrier men, huntng in march/april than there is done in LATE summer,a lot of lads hunt into march and beyond,i cant see the logic in it,If some feel the season is a little short,i would say start back a little early rather than hunting on a bit late,by early i mean august/sept

was out 3 times this week, 1st day was on the same earth for 3 bloody hours digging to cubs and the terrier getting the run around, poor little buggers,i hate to kill them youngsters  .

the temperature was nye on 20 degrees but thankfully a lttle wind, lots of flies biting and getting stung to bits by nettles, lovely

following callout, similar :censored:

following call out, a litter, all went their seperate ways into tight tubes so a few digs on a good winter earth which although backfilled nice, i doubt to find in it this winter :censored: , tried an earth near which produced the vixen and a rather weak specimen of a dog fox BUT a very happy keeper and a very tired and exhausted terrier enthusiast and terriers!!! :censored:
