idiots in charge of dogs

Recommended Posts

Tonight i saw a chap with a huge dog (i shan't say the breed in case someone misinterprets my post and stresses about picking on their breed, though it was black and tan and must have been 6+ stones) nearly have his shoulder dislocated by his own dog barking and pulling in a bid to get a fat lab tied up outside the newsagent. The guy could not control his dog and it damn near dragged him over the car park trying to get at the lab. I'd not be surprised if he is at the physio tomorrow morning. There were kids and women nearby who looked absolutely terrified at it slobbering and barking.

Shame, it puts dogs in a bad light.

Was it a Rottweiler or Dobermann  there are idiots in charge of any dog that dont care how to train them mate

Ah, now if i name the breed someone is bound to misinterpret my thread and start ranting like a Jeremy Kyle guest (as i have read happen before...)

Oh f#'k it, here goes.... The breed name began with an 'r' and ended with an 'r'.

Seriously, though why have any dog if you can't control it, especially one that's big enough to eat your leg.

Just makes the owner look like a nimrod when they dog shames them in public.

why didnt you just say what breed it was or not mention a breed at all just say a big powerful dog. Had rottys around since i was a baby and they can be one of the easiest dogs to train but if the person thats supposed to be in control of it is a numpty then any dog can be dangerous but i seen more old people with little lap dogs more often than othersd that are out of control going for everthing and anything but suppose thats ok as its only an old lady/man. The day i buried my dog last september i was waiting outside a shop and an oldish woman came up tied her biggish russel type dog up went in the shop a little girl rides past and it latches on to her leg luckil she was going fast enough so it didnt get her properly but still hurt her and made her cr yet the dog that i just buried was the devil type dog but you wouldnt meet a nicer more well mannered safer dog with people and dogs so we all know its not the breed. sorry for the rant just didnt like the wa you was making the dog out by trying not to make that breed look bad and remembered another comment you said about dogs of a certain type couple days ago

its all about how the dogs are brought up, true i have a little kelpie x that is very wary of people and other dogs and shows fear agression until she is introduced properly and then she is their best mates. This little dog has had hours and hours of agility and obedience training its just her nature and would probably have been vicious in the wrong hands. very few people keep the dog training up once they have got the basics a dog keeps on learning and developing right throughout its life. its worth the effort and keeps the dog motivated.

i have seen some absolute stunning examples of incredibly well disciplined large breeds, we should adopt the german system of making owners of working breeds acheive a certificated level of obedience.

too true I hate it when you have your dogs walking to heel and some idiots dogs who dont respond to a recall come charging in barking hackles up and when they get snapped at the owner of the un controllable dogs looks at you like a piece of sh1t on there shoe :icon_eek:

another las on this site was walking his patts in a park off the lead but only 2-3yrds away when a staff comes charging in and bowls over his pupp owner other side of park no recall older patt comes to defence bit of a scrapp and she told him his dogs are dangerous :wallbash:

We have our dogs not only as pets but animals to carry out tasks and with this we train socilase and work hard on our animals if you dont service you car it will fail the mot because its unfit to be on the road maybe we need an MOT for dogs or should that be owners? :hmm:

Good post Tomm

I dont really like the idea of any more laws regarding dogs, but bringing in the German system of certificates sounds like a good idea to me,the irrisponsible type owners would'nt bother putting themselves out to gain one,and all real breed enthusiasts would'nt mind doing it,you have to get a driving licence,a gun licence...ect,although i dont think it should be anywhere near the same cost for a "big breed cert" as these, maybe done through breed clubs?

The end of Jan my girlfriend and I were walking out 4month old (at the time) yellow lab pup in a public park/nature reserve. There are signs clearly marking the area where dogs can be off the lead. However, as he is a pup, my dog stayed on the lead. As we were walking along a man and his son came the other way. They had a colly and a large undocked liver and white springer, both off the lead. As they approached, I heard the man say to his dogs, 'you best come away as you play too rough'. He hadn't finished saying it when his springer attacked my pup. It only lasted 2 or 3 seconds, but was extremely distressing. The skin was not broken, but my pup was bitten on his left rear leg, in the stifle joint. He was lame and cried a lot afterwards. I carried him back to my car and then spoke to the owner of the spaniel. He denied that the attack happened and then said that my dog was not hurt. How does he know, he is not a vet. I got his details and said that the vet bill would be expensive as it was a Sunday.

It cost £120 for an appointment at the emergency vet. She diagnosed a soft tissue injury and prescribed some pain relief and 4 days kennel rest. I told the owner of the spaniel the cost. He said that he wanted to 'do everything properly' so that his insurance company would pay out. I wrote him a letter and dropped it off round his house the Monday night. The next day I had a phone call from the polie saying that he had reported me for harrassment and would be facing charges if I contacted this individual again. As an FAC holder I dont need that kind of hassle. The police refused to take any action against him as the dog did not bite a human. I have been told by a lawyer that it will cost £80 to take him to the small claims court and I would be unlikely to get my money back if this individual is unemployed or on low income.

Steady on staff's riffraff! I've nothing against rotts, they are great when trained, just like most breeds, big or small.

My point was about numpty owners not training/socialising their dogs.

We know the owner was the problem, not the dog/breed.

But the women and kids who saw it, might not know that the owner is the problem. Sadly, they might associate all big dogs with that behaviour, without realising it's the owner's fault. Hope that makes sense...

i used to keep my dogs on the lead, when other people had there dogs loose. But some people (wont) put there dogs on the lead, which will save all shit if the dogs (dont) get on. So what i do now is when they wont call there dogs back i slip mine off the leads, and if it does kick off nobody can anything because (all) dogs were off the leads fact. I suppose the only way you will learn people like them, is if there dog getts hurt a few times, they may start to change there attitude towards dogs. I had it happen years ago, i used to have bullmastiff bitch. She didnt like other dogs, so i always kept her on the lead. And she was a strong bitch that could use her 80lb easy, there was this bloke who had a black lab who would not put it on the lead. The dog would run up to any dog and start to play rough, i told him plenty of times before to keep it away from my dog, but he wouldnt. So one day i thought feck you, and loosed my bitch, his dog ran over and bang my bitch grabbed it , and shook the shit out of it. He went mad tried to kick my dog, i booted him then got my bitch off is dog. But from that day he never let is dog of the lead by other dogs, so it worked.
