Cuttting the tips of K-9's off

I've judge at about 10 shows over the last 5 years, and at every show I have seen at least 2 ferrets with suspected tipped teeth. I think its more commen than people like to think.

 

I'm at a show on saturday and taking Titch with me as someone wants to meet him, and will get a couple of other opinions.

there seem to be a lot of people in denial that theres people out there who cut the canines in ferrets. the canines on the silver jill kit i bought were cut, not wore, they were square, not rounded, in line with the rest of her teeth. this is ireland im living in, its not half as civilised in some respects as the uk where animals are concerned. ive witnessed a lot of things over here that you'd be jailed for in the uk. happening at horse fairs and the like. wont say what as it'd horrify many. there are people over here that believe that cutting the canines of ferrets prevent them holeing up.

Ferret kits dont get their adult teeth until they're are over 12week old and take a while longer to fully grow

this ferret kit was older than that, half grown, i kept her for a whole season and there was no change in her k9, i met someone else who'd bought ferrets off same guy, his were exact same

Suzie the vast majority of ferret owners that attend shows dont work their ferrets just keep them as pets and I doubt these people would intentionally break the ferrets teeth would they? IYHO whats the state of ferrets teeth in general at these shows? much evidence of plaque and decay?

OK but ferrets are fully grown by 18 weeks and yours was half grown you say?

Never seen a ferret with nipped teeth. Maybe it's a common injury due to biting on mesh, as others have said? Not saying some people don't cut the teeth though, it's just the teeth/wires scenario seems more plausible to me...

OK but ferrets are fully grown by 18 weeks and yours was half grown you say?

couldnt pin an exact age on her but somewhere between 4-5mths, which is half grown in my eyes, bought her in september/october, gave her away about april the next year
