They can be a real problem to control because they can breed all year round and the does may have dependent young at almost any time of year. Quote Link to post

Muntjac do breed all year, so sadly the does will usually have young or be in young, nothing you can do about that.............there are loads round me, a local shoot i know has a muntjac/vermin drive every march, that seems the only way to cull large amounts (last time i went they shot 27) beaters and guns in line (no dogs) walk through the large woods and shoot them with 12gauges loaded with AAA, the distance is always less than 30 yards as the wood is so thick you cant see much farther All are shot bucks,does and young. i am not averse to shooting muntjac with my shotgun either, i have been asked by a landowner to thin the little buggers at every opportunity, the piece of land is not suitable for rifles either due to the proximity of a road/house/footpath (see the shooting page on my website-link on signature) Quote Link to post

Its up to the individual as to what they shoot when and where .Down south ,around us, muntjac are shot on sight as vermin .Everyone has different reasons but mine is to stop foxhunter from getting one down here come May.lol. Berkutchi 0 Posted February 2, 2007 Report Share Posted February 2, 2007 What are the average weights in youre areas?,i have cought by accident two Muntjac with my Golden eagle whilst looking for woodland hares,one was a 17lb buck grolloched and the doe near 24lb mark.And yes he took them with little fuss. I do get the odd road accident munty from my friend who stalks as he gets called out to RTA,s with deer. Be interesting to see what size they are in youre area? Quote Link to post

This would ensure that you do not orphan dependant kids. Personally, I believe that deer 'management' is a luxury you have - only once a cull has reduced numbers to a satisfactory level.
