Standing shot, mono stick support... right through the head . She is on her photo-genic side for obvious reasons. It had been a long day and my mate who was 'supervising' me thought he was "on a promose" with a floosey he met the week before ... he took the rifle (and the carrying rope!) and left me to field-dress the deer and hump it back to my car (about 2 miles... his was 300yrds away... (i had to hock its front legs and put the back ones through the holes to create a sling to carry it back). First time gralloching and dressing one (done smaller goats before) but pretty happy with the results. Pretty chuffed with myself Quote Link to post

Frank, the rifle was an elderly CZ .243 with a 95 gr bullet (winchester silvertip i think). I don't know whether it was the scope or the old model but the thing weighed a ton! Those mono sticks arn't as supportive as i thought they would be either... i may have to invest in a split-stick. Skinned it in the garden yesterday but all the neighbours curtains started twitching so moved the butchery part in-doors. I took some pics of the skinning and butchery but haven't looked at them yet. Thanks Foxhunter, I know what you mean about waiting for a broadside shot... that was the intention as its not exactly a big target at that range . The buck that was with her rumbled us and nipped through the hedge... She froze and pricked her ears a few yards from the hole . DEFINATLY GOT THE BUG . Cheers bud You can get something similar to a fox squeeker that is supposed to immitate a fawn calling. This bring the hinds in and the bucks follow them. (at least thats the theory ).
