ive kept poultry most of my life but never had a problem with egg eating, ive bought some dummy rubber eggs and put them in boxs to stop it, i do know that some have started laying again and ive noticed the odd egg still getting eaten, is there any other way in stopping it or is it too late and should do away with them and start again, they have a good sized run with plenty of grit and with 14 hens i havnt a clue which one or how many might be eating them, any advice very much appreciated

CO CHISE, I'm the same as you with being a keeper of poultry for a some time. I have also had the annoying egg eaters from time to time. I have found no cure to stop the culprit's apart from fitting roll away nest boxes, or ringing the birds neck. You can't be there all day waiting for them to lay to take the eggs away.

Once a pecker always a pecker.

You'll have to try and find the culprit as she'll teach them all how to do it.

Golf balls are used by some folk but IMO it doesn't work.

If the hen is valuble for breeding some folk cut the tip of her top beak but it's something I consider cruel and possibly illegal. But those that do it consider the only other option culling.

Blow a couple of eggs out, fill with creoste and replace back in the nest box use a piece of putty or playdoh to fill the hole wher youve blown it out.Try it a 1 she should stop doing it,2 you'll know which is the egg eater by the brown staining on her beak.
