Rake aboot 4,936
Ey up Went out today (buggerd ankle and all) for a wee ferret about on a new permission. Took the auldest lad (to run about due to aforementioned ankle) and a wee polecat Jill that has not seen much action. After the first burrow (where the auldest let one get away by being the slowest lurcher,,Erm!! I mean Laddie in the word) the wee polecat seemed to be pissing about again She had done this the last time out with Roxy and it was not shaping up well for her. After a repeat on the next set of holes she was back in the box and was being sent to coventry as a pet for the grandbairns. The last set was quite big and the other ferret was not enough to cover it so the problem Jill was taken out again ,and I actually said to her,,"last chance" before putting her in. " minutes later she killed a rabbit at the entrance to a hole and just came alive !! worked the whole burrow bolting as she went and working rabbits right through till they bolted !!!!!! Must have heard me as now I have to give her another chance!! wee shite! Just shows though give them a proper chance before writing them off ATB Quote Link to post

The one 8,589
You cant blame it mate as you say yourself its no seen much action . i take my youngsters out every chance i get and even if theres a few older ferrets working a burrow i put a youngster or two in and let them do there own thing and hope they dont get in the way of the bolting rabbits Quote Link to post
theferreter 311
give the young ferret a bit of time some just take longer than others to no whats happening but then again not all make the grade you wont see the full potitenal till its second season any way mate only time will tell what why she turns out Quote Link to post
web22 27
my albino jill took a few outings to pick it up,now she is about there so putting in the time is defo worth it,a really good worker could take a couple of seasons to learn it's trade. Quote Link to post
Rake aboot 4,936
Ey up This is a rescue ferret so I have no idea of her exact age, suspect she is young but I only got her at the beginning of the summer Not that much action with me I meant,, no idea about her history but it doesn`t seem like she has been worked. They always get a fair chance from me anyway, and I never get rid of them, just retire them from working and make sure they are never bred. To be honest ,,in 22 years Iv`e not seen many that won`t work given a fair chance. They usually just click to it one day, as has hopefully happened here! ATB Quote Link to post
longnetter 32
All mine are rescues.....that's not unusual they prat around for a while then suddenly seem to switch on. Some are better than other admittedley but I've never had a complete non-worker Quote Link to post
