suffolk bu 7
happy new year to you all lads and ladies . i am a newby guy on here and can i say to you all that i find it fantastic to see what love and enjoyment you all get out of your dogs .after training and working sprigers for quite a few years i found that the people i was mixing with on shoots where either toffy nosed arse akes or people who allwys thought there dog was better because they paid more money for it ,and this has lead me away from shoots and to more time on my own .after two years without a dog i decided that i wanted to give lurchers or running dogs a try and so my wife dicided two buy me a couple of pups they look like some sort of running dog but its anyones gues what the mix is they get on well with the ferts which is a good start and they are the most chilled out pups i have ever had they are not in ya face all the while and train quite easyly . my point is i wish i had lurchers years ago i might still have my hair if i did they are a plesure to be around and cant see myself ever going back to gun dogs i wish you all the best in the new year and happy hunting . Ideation 8,217
A good springer and a couple of good lurchers is a lethal combination. Your right though there are some rights tits especially on the big shoots, they always seem to buy in very good but very expensive dogs to, and dont train their own. It's funny seeing the otherside of spaniel owners - the bushing crowd, some cracking dogs being used but usually much more chilled folk. Quote Link to post

All i was trying to say is dont throw the baby out with the bath water so to speak - some of the folk might be irritating but in a while i bet your tempted by a spaniel to knock out the daytime bunnies to your lurchers - there are few finer sports. bird 10,014
Hi mate, and welcome to the lurcher world . You wont go wrong with lurchers what ever the x . Ive got 2, colliex grey, bullxgrey, i a pup and the other 1x collie grey. The colliex grey is brill day+night, has great nose, fast+agile, good wind+feet and good coat. One thing i will say, is that being in lurchers 25 years, is you will get more shit from people in the country (landowners, keepers) because you own a running dog. You keep a gundog lab or springer, you wont get as much shit fact. I used to beat for a local shoot, and the keeper was ok for day rabbits, but no way at night with a lurcher. He would let the gundog lads shoot at night, and you prob know few keepers like that being in to gundogs.! Hope it works out with your pups, carnt beat a good lurcher. Ray Quote Link to post
