big boy 16
Yep i still have my oldy although she doesn't really show her old age bar her lameness on a front leg due to osteoarthritis, she still goes out on the lamp now and agian although she can't be run as hard as she used to she still gives her all, just tends to be stiff for a good day after, she will be nine years old tomorrow She was my first ever lurcher and i have enjoyed the years hunting i have had with her. Pre ban her main role was deer but she was up for anything, she was never a single handed fox killer but that never bothered me, she will be sorely missed when her time comes but she has life in her yet and she will let me know if she doesn't ever want to go out when i pick the lamp up. As a 12 week old puppy. lovely old girl Quote Link to post

Do different xs live longer than others? Lets see them old boys and girls!!! And what they have done?? my old mans irish coursing whippet is 10 years young still does the business, shows my young bitch up anyway,we have just taken a litter off him with my dads first cross beddy whip and are keeping one each, the old boy jock is worth his weight in gold! i just hope that my pup turns out to be half as good atb ryno Quote Link to post

johnny boy68 11,726
Do these dogs hunt differently from when they was younger? use there head a bit more? My old bitch is much steadier now than when she was younger resulting in her catching a few more led up in cover......where when she was younger she would just pile into the cover and the rabbit would usually make good his escape. But that could be down to experience. ryno 11
Do these dogs hunt differently from when they was younger? use there head a bit more? yes hes definatly lost that initial burst of pace but his brain engages quicker, i.e.when he was younger he would go straight up the beam 100 miles an hour not litterally and take a quatter from its seat, where as now he dissapears and comes into the beam from nowhere and strikes he just seems to adapt this is great for me as my bich is not the quickest and shes started coppying him by watching Quote Link to post
DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
I bet all dogs are different but roughly what age do you think they settle down, and use there head more. I bet its more pleasing to work a steady clever dog? Quote Link to post
