only problem with getting a guard dog, the tossers will poison it first.

i wouldent even put it past them to poison a dog just because they couldent take it.

not only that i dont really want to go down the route of owning one dog just to own another, does that make sense lol

I had a guard dog (pit/dobie) who was soooo suspicious of strangers he wouldn't even take food off them. He was sooo suspicious he wouldn't leave the yard if a gate was left open because his one aim in life was to guard the property.

I made him that way on purpose. I NEVER socialised him with anyone but me. If I had visitors I'd put him out the back. I don't think he ever got petted by another human apart from me. He was the best guard ever, well worth his food bill. He not only made sure none of my hunting dogs were stolen, he also guarded the house.

Yes, the downside was he was a 38 kilogram killing machine that couldn't be trusted around anyone but me, but I knew that so I was prepared and ready.

Here he is.

Make a raised bed with sides, use whatever bedding you like i prefer clean shredded paper, concrete the floor in sections leaving out where your drain will go and just fill that gap with hardcore for the minute. i dont know what type of roof you have on it but i would put in a sky light of some description then you can vandal prroof paint the roof and stick up broken glass, razor wire, whatever takes your fancy.

As long as the dogs get out regularly they dont need a run put a dog bowl holder onto the wall so it keeps the dishes off the floor and out of the shit.Paint the walls with a good washable paint so you can swill the lot out when it needs it. If there is electricity put in a heat lamp.If not get a little closed wood burner for the corner just to keep the damp out of the walls.

and if you can why not put a stable door on it with a mesh door behind it so that you can leave it open to dry out.

Depends on how much you want to spend and how resourceful you can be or if you have any mates on the sites??

Alright watchman cut yourself a hole in the shed and put a concrete lintol in to support the masonry above the opening, This way the dog can come in and out as he pleases, get yourself a run base dug out say 2100 long put youself 4 600x600 slabs down 1 side an aco channel in the middle piped to a lttle soak away filled with bricks from the opening in the shed. And another row of slabs down the other side. Put a slight fall on your slabs towards the aco so the piss can get away. Then just knock yourself a timber run up. Job done. Hope this gives you some inspiration. This is well easy to maintain 1 bucket of water with some jeyes fluid in once a week doe's the job. atb Tubba

not that hard to condition a dog not take food :victory:

ok a bit off topic but just out of interest, how would you do that

I don't think you need one dog to protect another when you're trying to protect a Lurcher, they can be trained to protect the house and not take treats from strangers. I wouldn't want my Lurcher to be wanting a piece of me if I was trying to get to her and she's not that heavy. I'm sure there are a few guys on here that can tell you how to make you dog guard I'm not going to say how I taught mine. There might be some good ideas for doing a clear roof in the ferreting section.
