student protests

Recommended Posts

Having been laid up in front of the telly for a few days i have watched a lot of news

The student "protests" have both gone a bit wonky and ended up with a bit of a mini riot

As i know that there is no shortage of opinions on here what do you think?

The news reported a small number of masked people who were only there for trouble and then showed the police in balaclavas

attacking people who were trying to run away but had no where to go !

Apparently education should be free for all, but i can remember as a kid we still had to have three different sports kits

various books and if you wanted to go on a school trip the cost was (and still is) bloody horrendous

So my education (limited as it was) was definitely not free and that was in a pretty poor London comprehensive school

I understand that the cost of a university course in either Wales or Scotland is a lot less than in England, why is that?

It looks to me that there are far more reasons for the "unrest" than a few quid for your degree course

My own idea is thus; we are sending more and more people to university ( some of the so called degrees are just beyond a joke)

It is reported that over a third of post grads are unemployed so that was a waste of time wasn't it !

If we are going toward more and more graduates who are the "working class" ? and where are they going to come from?

Is this why we have an open door policy to the various eastern Europeans that are willing to work for a basic wage? are they brought here to replace the

missing working class?

As you can see i have had a lot of time on my hands

You've made some good points, theres too many people going to uni studying bullshit courses that will get them nowhere in life, the top 10-15% of the brightest kids should be in uni getting decent meaningful degrees, medicine engineering teaching etc, the rest of the lazy twats should be earning a living from the age 16

I am working for a woman who's granddaughter has just done a degree in media studies and child care.

How the fu.ck is that a degree?

The girl is now looking for a job in child care and the degree is being looked at as useless for the job by the employers. They want people with an NVQ, which in the real world is what vocational students should be doing.

I think tax payees money should be spent funding education which is useful for our society and not a three year jolly up for some spoilt b*****d who wants to delay work for another three years.

There's far too many pointless degrees now that they have devalued them as a whole. Everything can be studied to degree level, from driving a lorry to looking after kids. I was at the local general hospital a weeks ago, and I was talking about this with an occupational therapist. She's been doing her job in the hospital since 1979, yet has recently had to study for a degree to carry on doing it...

University's need streamlining, no too ways about it, but it should not be at the expense of bright pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The students are rightly pissed off because the Lib Dems signed a pledge in the run up to the election in which they promised to vote against rises in tuition fees in any future vote. They have every right to feel let down & downright lied to.

In any society the students are always the first to make their feelings known. How many of you guys will do the same when the government go back on their promise of a free vote on the hunting ban? In the run up to the election a lot of people on here said they were specifically going to vote Tory because they were the only party offering such a vote..

"The students and police are a bunch of c**ts."

Well short to and to the point, but have a think next time you go to the Dr's or drive across a bridge !!, i will defer to the comment regarding the plod

"You've made some good points, theres too many people going to uni studying bullshit courses that will get them nowhere in life, the top 10-15% of the brightest kids should be in uni getting decent meaningful degrees, medicine engineering teaching etc, the rest of the lazy twats should be earning a living from the age 16"

Totally agree

"Get the army out on the streets next time there's a riot, and any damage caused and police time taken so far should be taken out of university funding budget."

If this happens i'll be the first to support who ever is being targeted by the Army and the police, arrest rioters by all means but the few led the many to a situation based on badly made decisions, surely a reflection on the state of the country as a whole and a direct reflection of the current government

I think its wrong to up the fees the students have to pay,but the money has to come from somewhere after the last goverment screwed everything up.But these rioters are the same people that protest about EVERYTHING, they are only there to cause trouble. And attacking the future kings car :icon_eek: ,they should have been shot :gunsmilie:

I disagree, a free education for meaningless degrees is a total waste of time and tax payers money, if you want to do a degree in tying your shoe laces then pay for it yourself

I want people doing degree courses that my society needs, Dr's, engineers, even solicitors ( although they're the biggest parasites in society) we need economists more than ever as the present lot seem to have a button missing

I do not need people with a degree in theatrical History ( surely history will do?), Pole dancing ( yes honestly) or Urban studies (WTF)

There are far too many people leaving Uni with a vastly inflated opinion of themselves who feel that the last three (funded) years give them a right to a good job with a good pay packet, well sorry but no it's not, get a job, learn the job so that you can do it well, get paid and then spend it !!

As for attacking Charlie and Witchy-poo, what's the point? he at least makes a few bob for himself and does a lot through the princes trust for the tearaway young uns

The protection squad should have been far more on the ball and showed how fat and lazy they really are when anything happens they should all be sacked for dereliction of duty and without their big fat pensions too !

Interesting to see that as "basic" working people who have had to make our own way without any "funding" from the government of the day we seem to be a lot better for it

Thanks for all the comments

ps; petrol just reached an all time average high of £121.76 and is still on the rise plus vat up to 20% in January

seems to me that a good protest is required but by who and where is a mystery !!

Water cannons and rubber bullets.

Thought they only had to pay the loans back when they earned over 21 grand?

The ones who approached Prince Charles' car should have been shot, although if they were protesting about a potential future monarchs marriage to a Roman Catholic then perhaps the police could have stood off for a minute ..........

The great unwashed ......... every single penny that goes to pay for the damage should be taken back out of the individual students university.

How could he marry in her in the first place unless she was a widow?

Does this mean that in the view of the Rc's witchy-poo and Charlie are living in sin?

Shamefull :tongue2:

Personaly, i rejoiced when i first saw the students demonstrating, i was begining to think that there was nothing that our "leaders" could do, that people wouldnt put up with.

The apathy of the British astounds me, where is the outrage at being lied to on weapons of mass destruction, where is the outrage at our soveriegnty being handed over to foriegn powers, where is the outrage at millions of foriegners flooding into our country, the banks the pensions the list goes on and on, but most people are content to keep their head in the sand and fondly imagine that the powers that be are this benign friendly force who have our best interests at heart, when nothing could be further from the truth. THe real issue isnt student loans, its government accountability, and untill more people take an interest in the way they are governered, then they will keep shafting us.

The students and police are a bunch of c**ts.

Horray!

The way I see it is, if you are old enough to go to work then pay for your education. I did it and don't see why I have to fund many that want a free ride.

Any way most of it doesn't have to be paid back until your earning about £20,000.

Fecking Cuntry is full of ponces! form every where.
