Why do you worry so much about the ground being hard? Just asking because as a teen I used to take my dogs out in the dead of winter when the snow was 16, even 20 inches deep... so long as there was a thick enough crust that I could walk on it without busting through. I sure miss those days, walking in the moonlight, just me and my dogs and it was so cold your breath would about freeze into crystals before your eyes. My dogs love fresh snow anytime, its the between fresh and a decent crust that dogs don't like as they bust through just like you and I. If the ground itself is frozen wouldn't seem to bother if your dog is hunting the field having some cover?

We just continue to run ours. A good dog wont have much of a problem with it.

Exactly, mine ran all day sat, sunday, and last night, just on our way out now... Always have ran them. When it isnt forzen, they run, slate, scree, rocks, etc..

summer time brings rock hard ground.... If they are out everyday, runing or working, they will know what speeds and manouvers they can and cant do....
