christian71 3,187
My old fella had a lakie bitch wouldnt go to ground only wanted to have a go when opened up. Was a good bitch to keep though use to locate the dog to ground diging on top. He always dug on top of the dog and this was before locators so was a very handy dog to keep anyone else had a dog do that or heard of any ? Edited November 18, 2010 by christian71 Quote Link to post
Guest busterdog
I've seen a lurcher do this a few times to good result. Quote Link to post
Panna 68
Not really the same, but we had a case when the dog lost his locator in the fight (it got demaged) and we sent my bitch to find and locate him. (We didn't know if she will, we only hoped.) She stayed with the other dog, that was down for about 6 hours working the quarry and he was quite exhausted. It was a great help this time. Guest AngelicAcid
Years ago it was called crowning, dog on top, directly below was other dog and quarry. Seen a lurcher/s done this when ferret was on back of rabbit, you could guaretee 100% that if you crowned to tyhe spot, you could hear thumping below. also seen a lurcher follow the direct tunnel for a bolt, by running and crowning ontop, always at the hole for a bit chase, soemtimes even right on top as rabbit bolted. Bosun11 537
One of my lurchers has a real knack for this job, he'll locate terriers both below and above and is very useful on days out. Though i do think it's a job not beyond any lurcher if they are out enough. As for terriers, in this day and age, if digging was your game, unless the dog has some other use for you, just to keep it to find, would be a bit pointless IMO. Quote Link to post
Guest AngelicAcid
Bosun, this was years ago at (least 30 odd,) the terrier/s were jack russells, im on about. They all worked Below, and were good at their job. I dont know if this was common place, but it wasnt just one that could do it either. Ive a few pics when i was in me pram, if i can get a decent scan then i will put them up. So im talking about 35+ years ago. They were small bodied, with black/tan head. This was well pre locater days. Edited November 20, 2010 by AngelicAcid Quote Link to post
