Aaron_butcher 17
Just started making my own nets out of hemp. I've read that hemp requires one knot and nylon requires 2. But does spun nylon require 2 knots aswell? Also the nets I've made are my first hemp ones, if I dry them after outtings how long should they last? Ta, Aaron. Quote Link to post

Search for Carrick Bend knot one knot suitable for all net making materials As for hemp it really depends on the quality of it, hard to find the genuine stuff these days, they can last several seasons if looked after properly Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post
heritage 202
People now prefer to use man made materials for there purse nets as the quality of hemp became very hit and miss, chances are what you have isnt real hemp but a flax/sissal mix....(hemp) will knit beutifully,it is good to work with and holds a good knot...as regarding the hemp "rotting",i think this is a load of rubbish..people always seem to always preech that you need to look after your hemp nets and dry them naturally after use...this is what should be done to all your nets regardless of what material there made from...look after your gear and it will last you years...im still using hemp longnets ive had for 9 years and there not ready to be replaced......atb Quote Link to post
blacktabs 3
Always single knotted hemp and double knotted nylon heard the new braid only needs one not bothered about it as i prefer hemp easier to set imo like the lads have said alaways dry your nets straightaway dont leave it till later atb. The one 8,577
Ive got hemp nets here that are thirty years old its all down to how you look after your gear , I double knot everything its easy to do and why risk a rabbit on a sngle knot slipping ?. Quote Link to post
netrigger 568
The biggest mistake Folk make regarding Naturall Fibered Twines is when after the days outing most Folk dont air them because the nets are wet already and leave the nets to Cook in the Net bag untill the weather breaks!! Big Mistake!! thats when the Rott setts in and theres nowt you can do about it!!! If its Raining still get the Nets out the bag as the only thing that keeps all Naturall Fibred Twines in top condition is Air. Once it stops Pissing it down the Nets will Dry of natuarly and last for years... And Do not hang any Naturall Fibred Twined nets next to or above any artificial heat source as that will also shorten the Nets Life Span... Regards Quote Link to post
longnetter 32
To answer your question mate, spun nylon can be tied with a single knot....no problem ATB Quote Link to post
