boyo 1,398
and when people go on about the show ponies yes there are some who only want to show their dogs but thats up to them because at the end of the day it is a dog show but there were a lot of genuine working dogs around yesterday. take for instance a mate of mine travelled all the way from southampton showed all hiis dogs and didnt win a rossette didnt have one moan or grouch and hand on heart ive had lurchers over forty years hunted and travelled all over the country to run my dogs and never met anyone who is out as much hunting as my mate lives for working his dogs they are born and die with him a proper lurcherman who happens to enjoy a day at a show for the craic with likeminded people . inan 841
cheers t and ime sure we will get a few runs that is. and your right thankless task judging .take yesterday for instance up at three thirty to see to the greyhounds and lurchers walk feed and clean them out then drive just under four hourss to get there for 8.30 am spend all day at the show judge the champions quick look round and drive the four hours home then do all the dogs again before falling in to bed .oh and forgot paid my own transport for the privelage of helping our club out .lol.so next time someonse is slagging a judge off have a think first their only trying their best and as long as their giving their honest opinion on the dogs fair play to them . I know what you mean, I was on the road at 6am ,£50 of diesel, got speed flashed on the way up.All afternoon slipping dogs for the speed jumping, bitten 3 times. Met some nice people, put a £70 dvd player up jointly with R as a raffle prize , all for free ,to do your bit for the Club, glad to do it ,but its an expensive day out, especially when there are some outside the ring having a pop behind your back. peterbirdman1 206
Fair play if they do give an" honest "opinion but I believe there are quite a few who seem to know the person on the other end of the lead better than the dog they are supposed to be judging. Is this why more people are keeping their dogs on the outside of the rings when you see a judge judging in the morning then showing in the aternoon, does this put more pressure on the afternoon judge to pick the morning judges dog. Often it seems that a regular winner gets picked as a safe bet even though there may be better quality dogs in the show on the day. Y I S Pete
