does anybody in the dover area dig,i have two terriers and wouldnt mind giving it ago.if anyone about my area wouldnt mind me tagging along or whatever get back to me cheers.

Hello Mate,

I would recomend getting in contact with the National working terrier club, see if they have any advice on people in that area who might mentor you. They can also make you aware of the strict legal guidelines that working terriers can be used under. unfortunately as I am sure you know, legally there is not supposed to be any digging for sport anymore, ONLY Pest control, regarding the killing of foxes to protect gamebird stocks. A working terrier club would also provide a wealth of information for you and allow you to discuss, breeds, equipment, etc.

I hope you do not take this the wrong way, as it is only meant as a friendly observation, but, asking to go on someone's permission on the basis of an open internet forum will not be attractive to many experienced terriermen. I will explain why, it is nothing to do with you personally mate, it is just that no one knows you are just a keen guy, wanting to learn. You could very well be an anti, looking to cause trouble for a terrierman. We all know the stories of terriermen made to look like they are involved in illegal activities by the media. Like I said nothing personal. Just no one can vouch for you, whereas in a club, people can meet you and over time may offer you the opportunity. Finally, permissions in Kent can be very hard to get so not sure how eager people would be to share their hard won permissions. Like I said nothing personal, just meant as a helpful observation.

cheers 4 the comments guys,the only reason i was asking is because on my permission they have a partridge and a small pheasant shoot and i noticed a very active earth,and rather than 'digging' and killing my dogs being inexperienced i thought id try and learn a bit.i do most outdoor sports ie ferretin shooting falconry and may have a running dog on its way,cheers for the advice though... atb jan

Well if you have permission and a bird killer you are halfway there. It still might be worth you considering the NWTC as they would have members in your area, who might mentor you, you are in a great position if you already have a good permission and legitmate quarry at your disposal.

i would suggest joining the FMWTC,i cover berks,wilts,hamps and oxon,you will have to visit the website to see who covers dover.
