FEO just been round because Im due for renewal..Told me the fees are going up to around £110 because current fees dont cover costs .. Glad mines sorted for another 5 years.

That doesn't sound very encouraging, and is an enormous hike if it is true!

He said it was due to cutbacks etc..They had made enquiries about taking it away from the local police forces but it was too complex. The only answer was to up the fees ..The £110 is a figure that would stop them losing money processing applications..My local area has to cut back 28 million

I always wondered how they could do it at the price they did, and I guess it's not fair to expect the non-shooting public to pay for all the licencing stuff, but still, it's a hell of a hike!

As someone said, the service had better be top notch!

You seem to have a much more sensible system in Northern Ireland with all guns covered on one licence rather than having one for shotguns and one for rifles.

I have always thought they have made the process so complicated on possible in order to try and deteer as many people from applying as possible.

Hello JonathanKent, it has always been like that in Northern Ireland, one gun or ten it is still £50/ licence, not like down south where they are charged 80 euros/gun ( I think). We used to need 3 farmers permission to be granted a Firearms Certificate but now we only need 1 but we also now need 2 character references. The paperwork is a bit of a headache and as you said some people just give it up rather than go through the hassle.
