max abell 198
We have always used .22 rimfires for rabbits and small vermin etc so my knowledge of air rifles is not good im afraid we have just sold one of our rimfires and bought my mates F.A.C airarms S 410 for shooting closer up rabbits and i have to clear barns of feral pigeons quite often what i would like to know is how far humainly will this gun kill a rabbit out from if hit in the head and what is a good all round pellet for this job As said with the rimfire we shoot hundreds of rabbits lamping every year but would very much like to learn the realistic capability of this airarms we just bought MANY THANKS FOR ANY ADVISE Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
What is the ME of the S410? that you have? I'll tell you more after I know Phantom Quote Link to post
davyt63 1,845
hi max why did ya by an FAC AA to do closer shooting? especially if ya clearing barns of feral. perforated comes to mind! you can take most air gun quarry at 45/50yds with these rifles and thats sub 12ftlb air arms field work well in most AA but then some choose to use different pellets because they don't suit every barrel you feed them too is it pre AT? regards Davy Quote Link to post
Buster321c 1,010
I cant say as i dont shoot FAC , BUT , i presume you will spend some time to get to grips with the gun and get the `feel` for it . That will give you plenty of time to work out where you can get your pellets , and what range your comfortable at . I shoot an S410 in .177 and can easily take rabbits up to 60yds and still get the placement i require . The S410 Xtra is the highest powered gun in the Air Arms range. Producing 30-35ftlb (41-47joules) in .22 there is plenty of power for most air rifle applications. Depending on the pellet used velocities of 1000ft/sec in .22 (5.5mm) and 1100ft/sec in .177 (4.5mm).You should get about 55 shots @ 27ftlbs . I have read of people posting ( elsewhere ) that they can shoot a rabbit in the head at 55yds with a FAC Air Arms in .22 , which i guess is ok but with pellet drop .22 can be hard to judge , but i can get that with a .177 in 12ftlbs . Personally , if it were me , ide use the rimmy , and anything closer ide use a .177 , but thats MY opinion . Good luck with it , Bust . Quote Link to post
garfield 23
if its running at around 24-30ftlb then you can cleanly dispatch quarry out to 60-70yrds hope this helps the benefit is the trajectory its almost flat ie point and shoot from 15yrd to 60 Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
A guy who took me for a wander around his permission a couple of years ago had a couple of FAC PCP's He was comfortable zeroing his at 70 yards and regularly took both Woodies and Bunnies at that range and a bit beyond, but dont know how far beyond he would go. Phantom Hi phantom this might sound a bit blonde but whats the ME mean i now know the rifle is a 30pound one if that helps and going by what the other blokes are saying it should be good to shoot rabbits out to 70 odd yards Thanks to all you gents for your replies it is much appreciated max Quote Link to post
garfield 23
ME = muzzle energy but with 30ftlb your good to at least 70yrd if not more depending on your capability Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
As Garf said ME = Muzzle Energy (ft/lbs in old money) a 70 yard zero using say Biz Mag pellets would still deliver over 18ft/bs to the quarry If conditions allow (wind etc) and you can shhot straight with a high mag scope at 100 yards you would still be putting quarry down with 14.6 ft/lbs Phantom Quote Link to post
spike25blue 55
Hi buddy all depends on the ft/lbs that the gun is putting out with my sub 12ft/lbs I'm zero'd at 35yards but conditions allowing I will take shot at 60yards as I'm confident with my rifle Atb rob Quote Link to post
