hello iv always wanted a longdog so decided to get a lurcher x staff iv only ever traind and worked with spaniels and never had a runer can any one help me with a bit knowladge please anything is welcome thank you lee

i cant claim i have much knowledge , but what do you want the dog to do, it sounds a bit heavy for an all rounder ,good luck with it,,

does a lurcher x staff count as longdog? depends what makes it tick food or praise, dont over do it, if you have trained spaniels to good standard you should be fine, lurchers are alot more sensitive so be careful not to be to harsh. will be harder and more frustrating to train than spaniel, unless good amount of collie, good luck

lurcher x staff = BULL LURCHER whats the problem if you can train spanials you can train a lurcher it will amaze you what a clever dog it is , i don t think you will have any problem

yes it is a lurcher, a lurcher has longdog in it or sight.... What do you think a bull/greyhound has in it? And thats a lurcher......I surgest you take it one step at a time mate, and the first step would be read a book or two. Then the next would be basic training you would do for any dog.(recall, stay, sit, heel, etc) AFTER THAT it is entirely upto yourself what you do with it. It all depends what you want your lurcher for.....bushing, coursing, marking, scenting, ferreting...etc.. A useful lurcher will do all these things with ease.... They have there own brain and will be more tuned into the hunting side than you could ever imagine...

 

You have to do the retrieving side of it by working it with dumbys, balls, teddy, what ever your dog likes.....

 

Then theres the jumping..... the list goes on mate, its entirely up to you.....

anyway, agree with the above start with general obidience and from then it depends on what you want your lurcher to do.

Yea, is it not a lurcher if it has sight hound in it or long dog.... ie: greyhound/ whippet/ deerhound etc....

Yes you are right a long dog is a sighthound x sighthound cross then again their all lurchers in my book i know i was only in my teens [bANNED TEXT] walshes book lurchers and long dogs came out but i had never heard of the term longdog used before that.If you have plenty of exspirience with springer spaniels training a lurcher should be a walk in the park for you.atb dell
