whip x grey 276 Posted July 22, 2011 Report Share Posted July 22, 2011 its that time off year again in scotland,,,,,where all the hardbloods ,,,met up and battle it out on track ( the english / scottish and irish ) battling it out,,,and having a good time afterwards after each day :drink: so if ur near by and nothing much on pop down ,,and have a wee look ,,i think weather ok for the 1st weekend ,,,scottish championships are 2mmorow,,,sunday an open , wedesday open,,,,sat/sunday next week scottish derby,,,,,it cost nothing to come on park and watch,,,and entertainment in pub afterwards,,, at kirkcaldy fife ,,,randolf playing feilds Quote Link to post

birddog 1,354 Posted July 22, 2011 Report Share Posted July 22, 2011 bob been watching with interest bud, abbey (nch pure genius) did 8.06 at old hall all those years ago. it would be interesting to talk to felix or pat about the times blue ruin and pj were doin cos they were special eh, and remember the three mentioned were not scratch racers they were 32lb. another thing to remember that even with technology moving on we never had guaranteed electric timing. i think the improvement is more of a gradual thing rather than purely to do with amount of greyhound blood, kinda like alan wells couldn't live with usain bolt, its just a natural progression. you know but for everyone else i've had 22lber that regular took hares single handed and 28lber that took rabbit,hare and fox, if memory serves me right her best night on the lamp was high 30,s. in my opinion hardbloods are racers if you bring them up like that and lurchers if you train them that way. well done for the recent success mate and finally keep your poaching mongrels of my permission Quote Link to post

Most of the best Non Ped "Whippets" have a HUGE amount of Greyhound blood in them, so may just be as good as adding Greyhound into a Lurcher line, especially if you want to bring the size down a bit. I heard of a top class 40lb scratch dog being mated to a good Greyhound bitch, and I realy fancied one, to bring up as a Lurcher, and also to race at my local tracks. Cheers. whats scratch dog :hmm: never heard that term before a scratch dog that makes over the weight requirment,,,,,,,,16lb to 32lb ,,,,somtimes 35lb ,,,,,over that weight instead off kicking them away,,,,,bwra and nnwrf,,,,let them race in there own class,,,,scratch means off levels no head start not sure ,,,,,but if a kc whippet ,,goes over height and weight,,,,kc aint intrested,,,,and are blanked ,,,,,but bwra/nnwrf,,,,,,dont throw any away,,,,they welcome them and let them run as its racing and speed, there intrested in ( whippet means quick ) ,,,,,not the way they look the reson for classes ,,,,is so a dog three times the size ,,,,,dont knock a dog out a 3rd off its size out,,,and straight to vets table,,,££££ which can happen,,,but not very often,,,,,there is also a speed ,,,,scratch dogs ,, or heavier types tend on a whole ,,are faster ,,off levels not the whippet racing handycapp,,,,( but not always) there is excemptions Quote Link to post
