WHITEYrs4 29
Me and my mrs were just talking about badgers! She asked me a question have I ever seen a badger kill a sheep or a lamb? Now hand on heart ive seen on a few occasions foxes killing lambs and on 1 occasion a fox taking down a ewe and 2 foxes attacking a ewe! But I have never ever seen a badger attacking a or killing a lamb or sheep! Has anyone ever witnessed this just out of curiosity?

Just because you have never seen it dont mean it dont happen , it's just that fox's are more likly to be out in the day hunting about than a badger will , i have never seen a badger out roaming day time but i have seen lots of fox's.,

Guest stewie
never seen it but in my opinion a badger could easily chase, catch and kill a fit healthy lamb with no problem whatsoever

neil cooney 10,416
Think about it. Like all omnivores the badger is an opportunist. He's also a powerful animal and faster than he looks. I would be supprised if he'd catch a lamb older than 2 or 3 days unless he got near it in the darkness but a new born lamb would be no problem, especially a twin and the ewe's defence would hardly upset a badger. An old hunting farmer I knew (RIP) seen it happen with his own 2 eyes and a terrierman I know whilst out looking for a lamb killing vixen accidentally dug a sow with cubs who had the remains of 5 lambs in the sett with her. The particular farmer was an excellent stockman and no way were these weak lambs. That was over 20 years ago.

When I was in my teens I can remember being in a conversation with 2 farmers and they were saying that a badger had killed 2 lambs but I didn't question them on it! It seems to be that farmers say that this happens quite often. What I find funny about it weight for weight this animal could match most dogs, its just really funny how we don't see this as often as we do foxes! Perhaps its because they are not such opportunists and not so keen as foxes! But then on the other hand when you walk the fields and see bits of lamb everywhere like legs, ribs and back it could well be a badger doing this and the foxes are just getting the extra blame for it! It would be good if somebody could catch this on tape then we will know for sure, there you go just another one of those mysteries!
collie/grey 238
I haven't seen it but heard of it, i have also heard that a badger will pull a lamb out the ewe when giving birth as will a fox, can't remember who told me but i don't disbeleive it.
GET THEM OUT (.)(.) 39
it could happen, my boss was on the way to mine the other morning and there was a badger walking down the road ! i have often seen badgers take young poults when sitting out at dusk waiting for a charlie, , a good keepering friend of mine was doing his rounds one morning and come across a very fresh badger on a bad bend, so decided to put it in the back and throw it in the pitt on the estate, got going down the road and the old badger come alive, his two labs was trying to fit thro the dog mesh as the badger did laps of the iforwilliams,
mattydski 560
Never seen a badger take a lamb..but i have seen plenty of badgers in the lamp, and let me tell you ..they are not a slow animal by any means. They can have a hell of a turn of speed! So physically, I would say they are more than capable!!
